@jeffsteinmetz it is not true that the Linux driver doesn't support anything but 1080p.
You are misinformated. Both Ubuntu and Debian distributions provided by myself and longsleep support a variety of resolutions.
The Debian images ship by default at 1280x720p and can be modified with ease to do 1080p and a variety of other resolutions up to 1080 at this point.
Also in regards to the HDMI converter ordeal if you are using a passive adapter you will get a pinkish color instead of black while if you use an active converter the issue doesn't exist.
