I think it helps that I am running the alternate modem firmware which really helps everything. https://themodemdistro.com (PPpro users, this website has the verified fix if your modem wont boot after you change/upgrade firmware it also has recommendations to tweak the audio quality ALSA levels))
I still get complaints about audio quality form people talking to me but I feel like the audio I am hearing is fine from my PPpro.
Today I flashed (*) the mobian-rockchip-phosh-20250727.img (weekly). I tried to record sound with in: Default and out: Default. Listen, very good. I tried to record sound with in: Phone Call and out: Phone Call. Listen, nothing. But setting out: Default, I could listen to a very good Record 2. Hoping that the phone itself makes the right choice in case of a phone call, I installed my SIM card and called my own number. Got a good voice asking to leave a message, which I did. Called then to hear my message. The volume was good, but the quality awful. I could understand, because it was my own message two minutes before, but not sure somebody else had completely understood. I took back my SIM card to my Volla22 (proprietary Android, non-Google) and listened to the message. The same poor quality.
I remember discussions over volume, setting or changing 160, etc. But what to do about the quality?
(*) For a fresh start, apt update, upgrade is not enough (even dist- or full-upgrade). I have been in a state with most apps aborting. Another forum said: reinstall everything meta*, indeed in charge of GUI, and this solved that problem. But anyway, an upgrade may leave tentative configurations under /home/myself or /etc. Flashing ensures the best available from Mobian without contradictory older configurations.
