A quick update:
In recent times, I was running my Pinebook Pro from micro SD card. The eMMC was not mounted or accessed in any other way. Nevertheless the lifetime estimate increased from 0x04 to 0x08!
Yesterday, I replaced the original 128GB eMMC with a new 256GB eMMC.
When I started posting in this thread we also noticed on my wife's eMMC a life-time estimate of 0x0b (100%-110). Two weeks ago, her eMMC completely died (re-seating or temporarily putting it in my Pinebook Pro has not helped). It can not be accessed anymore. I don't recall the precise kernel logs, something with lost interrupts. So yes, these eMMC can and do fail.
Code:
2025/02/08: Life Time writes 913GB, Life Time Estimate 0x01 (00% - 10%)
2025/04/28: Life Time writes 998GB, Life Time Estimate 0x03 (20% - 30%)
2025/05/04: Life Time writes 1000GB, Life Time Estimate 0x04 (30% - 40%)
2025/06/08: Life Time writes 1000GB, Life Time Estimate 0x07 (60% - 70%)
2025/06/14: Life Time writes 1000GB, Life Time Estimate 0x08 (70% - 80%)
