Unable to do initial setup of Weather due to keyboard

When I launch Weather from the list of applications, I am prompted to "Search for a city or country". However, I am unable to enter text into the search field that pops up: once I tap any key, both the search field and the on-screen keyboard disappear. Are other people having this problem? How can I get around it? Unfortunately, I cannot plug a USB keyboard into the first-generation version of the Pinephone that I have.
