Yeah we just had a new Pinephone release but I couldn't help but feel there was something missing, is there any chance the next Pinephone may have a 120hz display? I really want to get into Linux phones but that's the one spec holding me off :/
On that note as well what other features are people wanting on the next device?
I think the entire point of this generation of the Pinephone is to create affordable hardware to bring in developers to make software. When the Pinephone first came out, Linux on phones wasn't just bad, it was actually unusable in like 12 different ways.
- wifi would crash and only come back on reboot,
- autorotation would crash the phone,
- cameras didnt work,
- Web Browsers either took minutes to load web pages, or didn't fit on the screen.
- plugging in an external monitor would crash the phone.
- Plasma Mobile would crash by existing.
And all of that is just from memory. The above issues are fixed now yes, but trying new apps is still a gamble. You have no idea what apps will be usable on the phone until you try them. Imagine selling a phone with more expensive hardware like a 120hz display while this kind of software issues is still a huge problem. No one would buy it, calling it a $600+ scam.I think genuinely high end features like that would be reserved for several years from now at minimum, maybe for something like the Pinephone Pro 3. But that's just my guess.
