Shock horror, my Pine64 arrived before I was actually given a tracking number or proper shipping confirmation. Now to see if this thing is actually worth the hassle.

Sorry Mark, but as I found you to be pompous and patronising and you kept saying the same thing over and over and over again I blocked you some time ago. No idea what you're saying to me but I imagine you're welcoming me to my "itty bitty supercomputer".
In fact despite messing with the bloody thing for the last couple of hours, and despite ordering my USB power adapter, HDMI adapter and allegedly pre-imaged MicroSD card from Pine directly, I can't even get my board to power on. As the acrylic case is about the size of a breeze block I might as well just cut my losses now and start using it as a door stop. What a colossal waste of time, money and effort this has turned out to be.

Do you have a meter you can test the power adapter to see if it is putting out power?
Agree..two things to check right away...a functioning adapter, verified with a dvm or a swap, and a red LED to match..and, if that's ok, and you have a red LED, something actually written to the sd card. And even then, I'd probably write it again.
By not power on, I assume you are not even getting a power LED to come on?
