How do you upgrade Chromium on default Debian that came with my PBP. I can't access some sites due to security warning.

the intended way is to use the mrfixit upgrade script, which will pull any new chromium available.

Hello...
It's now 25 May and I keep getting notifications that Chromium is out of date. When I check "About Chromium" here's what I find: Nearly up to date! Relaunch Chromium to finish updating.

Version 78.0.3904.97 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on Debian 9.12 (32-bit)

So, I relaunch and still get the same message...
Quick note: I just relaunched Chromium and it tells me I'm on the same build. Sounds...not quite right....

In addition, I've noticed that Mr Fixit's Repo update never seems to update any more. That so?

Thanks! :-)

MrFixIT took the chromium and chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra deb straight from Ubuntu Xenial 16. The latest version from ubuntu is 81.0.4044.138-0ubuntu0.16.04.  https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/chromium-browser

The most elegant solution is figuring out how to include from ubuntu repositories only selected software such as chromium and chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra. Good luck.

It's going to be a rainy night here, so that should be the perfect solution on how to spend it! :-)

Apparently not being managed all that much. It was never intended as the "final" edition for PBP, simply one that worked best at the time. For me, it has been, and continues to be, trying new distro's that have since been made better by someone(s) effort.

Even though I have an early PBP, it isn't my intention to keep the original distro on my machine. Once I find one I like better from my own testing and others experiences, the current Debian is toast...

My PBP has the ISO keyboard which isn't what I wanted, but what was available. But I make it work and only requires a small effort on my part. Some day, down the road, I'll get a PBP with an ANSI keyboard, probably a better default distro and maybe some improvements.

For $200.00 it is a remarkable achievement. One I am pleased to be part of...

Best Regards, Rick :-)

After playing with it, think I'll continue playing with other distro's and simply replace the default OS. As I remember when the PBP was being introduced, the default Debian was the best working solution at the time. Not intended to be the final solution.

I like Manjaro, so that is likely the winner.

Want to keep up with the improvements new OS's have. Bad idea?

Best Regards, Rick :-)
