Arch Linux on RockPro64
#31
Hi,

Quote:Is this easy to do in the current state of development?
Define what do you mean by easy! Have you ever opened a terminal and typed in some commandos yourself that you did not directly got off the internet? Maybe already partitioned a hard drive on the command line? Sure, it will be no big deal for you, you'll get going in an hour. Do you wonder what a 'terminal' is? Man, this will be more than an after-dinner evening project for you.

Quote:I am looking into getting a RockPro64 and would like to put ArchLinuxArm on it.
my first post in the thread still holds valid for getting ArchLinuxARM onto your RockPro64, even though it is very crude compared to today's development state. However, I would not recommend that today any more.

There is a thread that I wrote in April describing on how to create mainline u-boot from source and also on how to partition your SD card to get u-boot and ArchLinuxARM running on the RockPro64 out of the box:

https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=9675
(if you want to cross-compile u-boot, just change the arch= field in the MAKEPKG or just download my .pkg from the releases, that you only need to extract)

Quote:Also, I have never heard of a Mali GPU before but I would like to know whether it would work with SwayWM and whether or not HW acceleration works.
For info about the stage of the GPU drivers, you'll have to look around in the forum and on the pine64 wiki. Do not have many hopes with Arch Linux mainline, though, the patches for video acceleration are not included in the mainline Linux kernel yet.

Quote:Also, a more general question, but would I be able to boot off of an SSD in the PCI slot?
Booting from an SSD in the PCIe slot is no problem. Again, look in the forum. For example, I have a thread started on that

If you want a bit of honest opinion here: If you really have never heard of what a Mali GPU is, I would strongly recommend that you first look up the hardware of the RockPro64 and browse around in the forum a bit. Im sure you'll also find the threads relating to your other questions.

Also, I have never heard of a Mali GPU before but I would like to know whether it would work with SwayWM and whether or not HW acceleration works.

How much of the hardware is supported? From the look of things it seems to be getting better with every kernel release?

Also, a more general question, but would I be able to boot off of an SSD in the PCI slot?
