Is X11 Screen Rotation Possible?

I guess X11 clients on Phosh should work through XWayland, but I assume you meant "Phosh on X11", and don't think that's possible.
Either way, I'm not using Phosh, I'm using an archlinux barebones installation with my own sxmo-inspired build of dwm.

I actually prefer a desktop interface, though last time I experimented with Mate, so many things just didn't work (including shutting down the device), I kind of gave up on the idea of running a desktop interface on it.

It's always going to be a small number of users that want all the phone features working on a desktop Linux. An even smaller number of people are actively working on that, but with time the software will improve, as long as our PinePhones last that long and the community doesn't move onto something different.

I've got the gnome-calls application working on Slarm64 (unofficial Slackware) now as well as SMS in Pidgin. I'll try and make some packages available eventually but I'm mainly doing it for my own use and don't have much time to work on this stuff.
