If you want a desktop, try apt-get install task-mate-desktop

Hi evilbunny - Thanks for your suggestion,

I have already tried the script, which however gives a lot of message about missing program packages and not compatible packages.

Have also tested the other suggestions, regarding Debian desktop, in this forum, but nothing works on my Rock64 with 4GB of RAM, that I received on January 8th, 2018, from Pine64.

It should also be mentioned that bionic-minimal-rock64-0.6.15 -175-arm64. img. XZ works impeccable, with X11 and LXDE. The only problem I have with it is that there is the commercial company behind which I am not happy with.

Have you tried using the debian mate image?

Also about missing packages you can usually fix this by:
Code:
sudo apt-get update

Yes, I've tried Debian Stretch Mate Community Build Image [MicroSD Boot] [0.5.15-136-20171222], which freezes desktop without menu, task-line and reboots desktop every time you use the keyboard or mouse. If you think it should work, then I'll give it a new try and see if I can install another desktop.

Tested Debian Stretch Mate Community Build Image [MicroSD Boot] [0.5.15-136-20171222] again.
Login screen OK. Start the desktop with 3 icons OK, but missing menu and task-line and it restarts the desktop everytime I try to open one of the icons or activate anything with the right mouse button and no option to get a terminal window to work in.
