Axolotl on PinePhone / Mobian
Question
Hello

Sorry for my basic questions. I would like to be able to create a Signal account without using a phone number or an Android phone and I need to communicate with someone who uses Signal. Does Axolotl work on Trixie? I understand that there are some unimplemented features, I need to send mostly text messages, I don't plan to use groups. Is the project still active?

You need a phone number to create a Signal account. Signal normally sends a verification code via SMS to that number, it can be coaxed into making a voice call instead (accessibility feature, but can be used to register with a landline number). But with no phone number at all, it is not possible, no matter what client you use.

Axolotl did not work at all for me when I tried it a while ago.

People suggest using signal-cli to register and then pairing Flare (or signal-desktop, but that is not designed for touch interfaces at all, so Flare will probably work better) with it. Flare can also experimentally attempt registration by using the FLARE_ENABLE_PRIMARY_DEVICE environment variable, which may or may not work for you. I have not tested that (neither the environment variable nor the signal-cli) because I do not currently have a need for a Signal account.

i use signal-cli and signal-desktop. i usually use laptop or desktop computer mostly anyway. in pinephone, 150% screen scaling or less is recommended for signal-desktop.

i need to test flare at some point.

Thank you for your answers. As I don't want to use my phone number to register, I'll look for another solution and I'll stay away from Signal.
