  Instructions for extra touchpad gestures
Posted by: clover - 12-27-2019, 11:48 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Tutorials - Replies (13)

If you would like to have page back and page forward gestures (swipe left and right with THREE fingers), pinch to zoom in and out, quickly switch workspaces and more on your Pinebook Pro, look no further! This is how I got mine set up.

BTW I am using Manjaro KDE (Default Debian tutorial below!!!), if you are using something else, YMMV.

Download xdotool

Code:
sudo pacman -S xdotool

Enable AUR and download libinput-gestures

Code:
sudo pacman -S libinput-gestures
make your users config settings file based off the default

Code:
cp /etc/libinput-gestures.conf ~/.config/
Start it up!

Code:
libinput-gestures-setup start
if you want to have it start on every boot.

Code:
libinput-gestures-setup autostart
Enjoy your new fancy three finger swipes to move back and forth between webpages. The config file is very customizable so feel free to get creative.

EDIT:

If you would also like the ability to switch between workspaces (desktops) with a four finger swipe, jump to beginning and end of webpage, and pinch to zoom in and out, here is the edit:

Code:
# Jump to the beginning of a webpage (three fingers)
gesture swipe down      xdotool key Home

# Jump to the end of a webpage (three fingers)
gesture swipe up        xdotool key End

# Workspace/desktop switch (four fingers)
gesture swipe left      4 _internal ws_up

# Workspace/desktop switch (four fingers)
gesture swipe right     4 _internal ws_down

###############################################################################
# PINCH GESTURES:
###############################################################################

# zoom in
gesture pinch in        xdotool key ctrl+minus

# zoom out
gesture pinch out       xdotool key ctrl+plus

NOTE: the Manjaro ARM KDE image does not have virtual desktops set up by default, you will have to add a second one yourself:

Virtual Desktops -> Add -> edit your new desktop to say 'Desktop 2'. you should now see Desktop 1 and 2 in the list.

DEFAULT DEBIAN TUTORIAL:

Install Dependencies

Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install xdotool wmctrl
sudo apt-get install libinput-tools

We are going to have to build it ourselves

Code:
git clone https://github.com/bulletmark/libinput-gestures.git
cd libinput-gestures/
sudo make install

Add this to ~/.config/libinput-gestures.conf (you will have to create this file yourself)

Code:
# Configuration file for libinput-gestures on Pinebook Pro.
# clover, Dec 2019
#
# The default configuration file exists at /etc/libinput-gestures.conf
# but a user can create a personal custom configuration file at
# ~/.config/libinput-gestures.conf.
#
# NOTE: This configuration works on Manjaro KDE/Plasma and Debian + MATE if you are using something else YMMV

###############################################################################
# SWIPE GESTURES:
###############################################################################
# Jump to the beginning of a webpage (three fingers)
gesture swipe down      xdotool key Home

# Jump to the end of a webpage (three fingers)
gesture swipe up        xdotool key End

# Browser go forward (three fingers)
gesture swipe left      3 xdotool key alt+Right

# Browser go back (three fingers)
gesture swipe right     3 xdotool key alt+Left

# Workspace/desktop switch (four fingers)
gesture swipe left      4 _internal ws_up

# Workspace/desktop switch (four fingers)
gesture swipe right     4 _internal ws_down

###############################################################################
# PINCH GESTURES:
###############################################################################

# zoom in
gesture pinch in        xdotool key ctrl+minus

# zoom out
gesture pinch out       xdotool key ctrl+plus

add user to the input group:
Code:
sudo adduser clover input

If you want it to start on every boot create systemd file

Code:
sudo touch /etc/systemd/system/gestures.service

add this to gestures.service:

Code:
[Unit]
Description=gestures

[Service]
User=clover
Group=clover
Type=simple
ExecStart=env DISPLAY=:0 /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/libinput-gestures

Finally, start and enable

Code:
sudo systemctl enable --now

Thats it!

  Disable ttyS2 console
Posted by: inillaug - 12-27-2019, 02:43 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - No Replies

Hello,

I need to connect a device to uart. I saw in documents that the only uart is ttyS2.

ttyS2 is connected to the debug console of the ROCK64.

How can I free ttyS2 for my purposes?

The image I used is "stretch-minimal-rock64-0.8.3-1141-arm64.img".

I opened "/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf" but there isn't reference to tty console to disable.

My order from November appears to have shipped.

Got a SMS from DHL asking for customs information (I'm in Croatia). They wanted an EORI number but I was able to enter "n/a" and continue to the next page where they wanted a description of the item and a receipt uploaded.
According to the tracking number it hasn't left HK yet. ETA Jan 2nd.

Hello,
I need to use a Google Authentication app to generate secure code, is there anything similar for PinePhone?
I mean I would like to buy this phone but I need this feature, otherwise I will use an Android Sad
Operating Systems could be anything.

In-Circuit Programming of SPI NOR Flash
Posted by: hmuller - 12-25-2019, 08:36 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Tutorials - Replies (13)

This approach uses additional hardware to probe, read, write, verify and erase the 128Mbit SPI NOR flash found on the Pinebook Pro.  Although this should work on the PBP's cousins (ROCKPro64, ROCK64, PINE A64-LTS, PINE H64 vB, CUBE?), the process has only been thoroughly tested on the PBP.

In summary, I used a Raspberry Pi (with monitor and USB keyboard), a USB flash drive, a test clip, a breadboard with jumper wire, and an external 3V3 power supply to perform in-circuit operations on the installed GD25Q127C SPI NOR flash ROM successfully. This post is being made with the Pinebook Pro I own and used in the experiments.

WARNING: I accept no liability for any outcome that results from any use of this information.

I can confirm that, at least on my unit, the SPI NOR flash arrives empty. You will find a detailed write up of the entire process at this link:

https://gist.github.com/hxmuller/1c209d2...37237b649e

The Pine64 single board computers (SBCs) might work as well, I just don't own any to test with.

  Screws and Spacers
Posted by: belfastraven - 12-25-2019, 07:29 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (11)

Could someone please provide the specs for the screws and spacers?  I'm assuming that the screws are soome kind of standard size,  and that I can find replacements for the spacers if I know their dimensions.  I have removed the back cover at least a dozen times and have already lost two screws and have broken spacers . (One was broken when I received the notebook) If I knew what the specs were,  I am sure I could buy them online here (U.S.).

Perhaps, in future devices, slightly larger screws could be used.

Also,  would it be possible to buy another bottom cover?  I would love to try putting a hinged port over the areas with the switches (emmc, serial, reset button, emmc socket) so that I wouldn't have to deal with the ten tiny screws.... :-)

New NVMe SSD not seen by OSes
Posted by: tophneal - 12-24-2019, 07:41 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (14)

Purchased one of these recently and finally got it today. Found plenty of good reviews, but only one with power usage information, and it looks like it should be perfect for the PBP and its power restrictions. Installed it without any issues (great thing that it's a shorter one, I didn't want to cut the board.) However, now that I'm booted back into Manjaro (or Chromium) I can't even see that the drive is there. I'm going to try reinstalling the hardware, but I was curious and thought I'd ask if anyone else has experienced a similar issue. Has anyone's NVMe drive given you issues being made available for formatting/partitioning?

So far neither Gnome Disks or Gparted shows the drive, and I don't see it within /dev/, Chromium doesn't show the drive at all either.

  Key mappings
Posted by: cmelcher - 12-24-2019, 03:51 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

Is there a way to map the |\ key to Right shift and ~# key to Enter?  I have it set as a US keyboard, but I routinely hit those keys accidentally because they're where Shift and Enter normally are.  I cannot figure out how to remap them on the PBP.
