Is the NFC case dream still alive?
Posted by: cgbarros - 08-03-2023, 03:10 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Accessories - Replies (1)

Hey! I saw that back on October 2020 it was announced a back cover for the PinePhone that would have NFC.

I didn't find anything about it since (granted it's hard to search in the forums for just "NFC") and there are no NFC back cases in the pine store.

Are there still plans to make it?

Does latest Tow-Boot install/work correctly for everyone?
Posted by: tophneal - 08-03-2023, 12:31 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (4)

After a few years of rocking a BSP img on my emmc (for that sweet S3) and not booting into it, I'd like to switch fully to a modern install of Fedora since I've been booting a pre EFI Fedora img from SD as my unofficial main boot.

Since Tow-Boot is needed for a modern Fedora install, I went and grabbed the latest version (2022.07-006) from Github. After writing spi.installer.img to several different and known working SDs, as well as using dd, nandwrite, and flashcp to write it directly to /dev/mtd0 (all indicated successful writes in terminal) I cannot get my PBP to boot into the installer menu, or show anything tow boot related at boot up when writing directly to the SPI. (At most, I get a solid-lit green power LED and a black screen when booting the SPI installer SD.)

I've also tried going back a few versions, including 2021.10-005 and 2021.10-03 (which I recall successfully booting and installing a year+ ago) and I get the same results from them too.

So I'm curious now if anyone else has had this or a similar issue when trying to install tow-boot through SD installer or writing directly to mtd0 from within a booted OS. I'd raise it as an issue on the Github, but I want to be sure I haven't overlooked any potential solutions and I know @samueldr has indicated he isn't able to be as active in maintaining/troubleshooting as before.

EDIT: it was pointed out, I should add the commands I've run to write the installer to SD, and the .bin to SPI. Please note, the SD card is read as sda by the system.

dd (as per the tow-boot pbp page:

Code:
sudo dd if=spi.installer.img of=/dev/sda bs=1M oflag=direct,sync status=progress

nandwrite:
Code:
sudo nandwrite -p /dev/mtd0 Tow-Boot.spi.bin

flashcp:
Code:
sudo flashcp Tow-Boot.spi.bin /dev/mtd0

I ran
Code:
sudo flash_erase /dev/mtd0 0 0
between each nandwrite or flashcp.

  pinebook 1080p power/barrel connector/cable
Posted by: cel - 08-03-2023, 11:43 AM - Forum: Pinebook Hardware and Accessories - No Replies

Same as https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=7856 (thread was closed); replacement cable came to have same issue of not making a good connection except while inserting or wiggling the cable/connector or when applying angular pressure to it.
Adding another power supply or finding the fabled USB OTG would be nice... https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=7510
Edit: cable is working somewhat now.

  Custom Backs for Pinephones?
Posted by: MadameMalady - 08-02-2023, 10:56 AM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Accessories - Replies (1)

Does anyone with a decent 3d printer and sanding / smoothing skills have interest in making / selling Pinephone and Pinephone Pro Back covers?

I'd really like a few dif colours for my phones back, maybe pink and purple or even a few multicolored ones,

If you make stuffs like this, hit me up, I'd love to order from ya Etsy or w/e have you! Tongue Sleepy

  Capitole du Libre 2023
Posted by: fantomid - 08-02-2023, 07:09 AM - Forum: Langue Française - No Replies

A bientôt,

Thoughts on repairs for a Quartz64-B
Posted by: beepy - 08-01-2023, 11:37 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Quartz64 - Replies (1)

Hello,
I purchased new a Quartz64-b, and eventually found out that the Ethernet is faulty. ...after the 30 days warranty.
(I'm not a complete newb with SBC, but I got it, then ordered a Uart dongle later on, and that took its time to arrive and 30 days later...)

The errors for reference:
[  163.788898] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet end0: PHY [stmmac-0:01] driver [RTL8211F Gigabit Ethernet] (irq=POLL)
[  164.790182] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet: Failed to reset the dma
[  164.790836] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet end0: stmmac_hw_setup: DMA engine initialization failed
[  164.791683] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet end0: __stmmac_open: Hw setup failed
[  165.410902] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet end0: Register MEM_TYPE_PAGE_POOL RxQ-0
[  165.504999] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet end0: PHY [stmmac-0:01] driver [RTL8211F Gigabit Ethernet] (irq=POLL)
[  166.513886] rk_gmac-dwmac fe010000.ethernet: Failed to reset the dma

So, a cautionary tale maybe? What to do?

Either: 1) wait - it may be a firmware issue. It hasn't been confirmed.
            2) repair it somehow? That seems very difficult.
            3) work around it. Wifi is working and a USB Eth --provided its NOT in the USB3 socket.

So, be careful. The quality control may not be there entirely. I don't know.
When you get it in the mail - test it ASAP, but then again you may not know all the faults with the device before the 30days is up .
Would I buy one again? ....probably not.

  [Article] Star64 JH7110 + NuttX RTOS: RISC-V PLIC Interrupts and Serial I/O
Posted by: lupyuen - 08-01-2023, 06:48 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Apache NuttX RTOS on Star64 JH7110 RISC-V SBC is almost ready! But we're stuck with 16550 UART Controller firing too many Spurious Interrupts.

In this article, we explain…
(1) Why there’s No Console Output from NuttX Apps
(2) How Serial I/O works in NuttX QEMU
(3) How UART I/O differs for Star64 vs QEMU
(4) What’s the RISC-V Platform-Level Interrupt Controller (PLIC)
(5) Why we delegate RISC-V Machine-Mode Interrupts to Supervisor-Mode
(6) How NuttX Star64 handles UART Interrupts
(7) Which leads to a new problem: 16550 UART Controller fires too many Spurious Interrupts!

  Pinebook Pro ISO Availability
Posted by: ZECK - 07-31-2023, 05:30 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - No Replies

Hello,

I haven't read anything new about the Pinebook Pro with ISO/UK Layout in the last weeks and the store page still just says "out of stock". Is there planned that the PBP will be available again? Is there a list to preorder for a batch eventually or something like that? Or is the PBP shifting out already and will be replaced by a newer device?

  Pine phone main board part
Posted by: Generaltuxenburg - 07-31-2023, 05:09 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (1)

So I unfortunately was one of the people who broke one of the SIM card slot connectors so lte and such doesn’t work or is super spotty at best, anyway I purchased the 3gb ram 32 gb storage for the pine phone but I’ve never seen spare parts become available at this point I’d just buy the PPP if I wanted to use a daily Linux driver. Thank you for any help.
