  Powering PineTime
Posted by: yokonav - 03-21-2020, 06:47 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PineTime - Replies (1)

My PineTime battery connector is broken. Can we connect 5V usb power supply to the connector (where LIPO battery was connected) to safely power PineTime?

Shocked New Pinebook Pro won't detect SD cards
Posted by: User 17110 - 03-21-2020, 02:45 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (4)

I recieved my Pinebook Pro this week and have been looking at getting a new OS on it today. I have a Sandisk SD card that I have formatted as FAT32 on my Mac. Upon insertion into the Pinebook Pro the SD card is not detected.

If I follow the `dmesg` logs there are no obvious messages when inserting the card which leads me to believe it is not being detected at all.

Is it possible I have recieved a unit with a faulty SD slot? What are the best ways to debug this issue?

Many thanks

  Flash U-Boot
Posted by: stefan.schumacher - 03-21-2020, 11:23 AM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (3)

Hi,

I just booted the Manjaro eMMC installer from SD and flashed my eMMC storage. Everything works as it is supposed to be. I have a running system I can log into.
My first step was to run pacman -Suy. It prints some lines concerning u-boot, which wants me to flash files to my install drive. Is my install drive the eMMC or the block devices called mmcblkboot0 and mmcblkboot1? I have already flashed mmcblkboot0 but I am unsure if this is the right place and decided to ask here before rebooting and having to reflash a bricked device.

Where do I put idbloader.img and i-boot.itb go on the pinebook pro? What is supposed to be on mmcblkboot0 and mmcblkboot1?

Yours
Stefan

  Requesting LCD Pinout Details
Posted by: tayspen72 - 03-20-2020, 09:50 PM - Forum: PineTime Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

Just looking for a little more info on the pinout connecting the LCD driver to the MCU. The schematic showing the J7 connector shows some of the pins but they don't quite line up with the naming of the pins on from the LCD datasheet. I'm hoping to find definitions for each of the lines used for interfacing with the LCD driver. Obviously not the pins from the driver to the LCD..

Any clarification is appreciated. Thanks!

zram is awesome! PBP is awesome! zram on PBP is awesome^2!
Posted by: moonwalkers - 03-20-2020, 09:34 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (5)

This basically puts the amount of memory used at about 9.5GiB (used + DATA - TOTAL), that's on a system with only ~3.7GiB RAM available!

Code:
$ free -h; zramctl
total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
Mem:          3.7Gi       3.5Gi        34Mi        84Mi       224Mi       114Mi
Swap:          14Gi       7.9Gi       7.0Gi
NAME       ALGORITHM DISKSIZE  DATA COMPR TOTAL STREAMS MOUNTPOINT
/dev/zram0 lzo-rle      14.8G  7.9G  1.9G  1.9G       6 [SWAP]

And the system is still surprisingly responsive for a low-power CPU.

  Manjaro/XFCE4: spontaneous screen locking
Posted by: rossk - 03-20-2020, 05:49 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (3)

When I'm using qutebrowser or Chromium (but not firefox), my screen will spontaneously lock. Sometimes this happens when I click a link, enter a URL, switch tabs, or scroll down to reveal new content.

I took two incredibly boring videos, that demonstrate the problem.

Chromium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC1qPaECD6E

Qutebrowser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGs_ediL5XU

Does anyone have any ideas how to troubleshoot this? Or, what the problem might be?

Center touchpad under typing keys in future versions?
Posted by: Damon - 03-20-2020, 05:03 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (3)

Hello, I'm trying to retrain myself to hold my wrists higher and not accidentally move the cursor with the base of my thumb, but I realized that I only do it with my right hand, and then l Iearned that some laptops center the touchpad under the spacebar, or the g and h keys for this reason. The PBP centers it on the device, leaving it to the right of the lettered keys and probably contributing to accidental touches.

I think moving it to the left to align with the center of the typing position would be a good solution to reduce accidental touches, but I know some people like touchpad more on the right since they use it with their right hand. I use it with both hands, so wouldn't be negatively impacted if it was further left.

Upper USB slot not working on FreeBSD
Posted by: Pbowen - 03-20-2020, 05:01 PM - Forum: BSD on PINE A64-LTS / SOPINE - Replies (4)

I have FreeBSD-CURRENT installed onto SD card for the Pine64-lts. I boots fine so I installed X and Open-Motif, and they work fine as well. The only problem I have at the moment is the upper USB slot is not working for things like dongles for wireless keyboard/ mouse, or WiFi adapter, or flash drive. It works fine for all of those things under Armbian, so I know it's not a board issue. Is there a way to configure "something" to get it to recognize the flash drives and stuff?

Thanks,
Patrick

New NVMe adapter showed up today!
Posted by: bceverly - 03-20-2020, 01:49 PM - Forum: Pinebook Pro Hardware and Accessories - Replies (4)

Hi all,

Is there some sort of step by step on how to install this?  I have my NVMe drive and the new adapter but when I took the bottom plate off (using the nice guide) I wasn't sure where to put the thing.

Any help (esp with pictures) would be appreciated!  For example, do I somehow remove the existing storage in the upper right-hand corner (looking down with the hinge at the top) and attach the adapter's cable?  Where do I physically attach the adapter?  There doesn't seem to be a female screw attachment point on the adapter (just a hole) to hold the NVMe drive in place.

Thanks!
