  SIM Not Detected
Posted by: syrinx - 11-05-2020, 11:54 AM - Forum: SailfishOS on PinePhone - Replies (3)

I have a working Verizon SIM card, but Sailfish does not recognize it. On all of the menus related to this, it says that the sim is not detected. Is there any way to fix this?

Just flashed and phone won't charge
Posted by: ragreenburg - 11-05-2020, 09:31 AM - Forum: SailfishOS on PinePhone - Replies (8)

I just flashed my microSD last night and gave it a spin and after the tutorial I had 2 issues. The first being that after the tutorial I literally only had the spinning wheel as my home screen. So if I pulled down from the top I could see the task menu(?) but swiping left and right didn't do anything and pulling up from the bottom opened the camera. Secondly, it seems like it won't charge right now. Any work arounds for that? Also, should I just reflash my SD card since it seems like my install is a bit broken?

  Pinebook Pro Case models
Posted by: sundog - 11-05-2020, 09:15 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (2)

Hey, folks -

Is there any chance we could get 3d model representations of the case parts for the Pinebook Pro?

I've got one that I could take manual measurements from if I have to, but it'd sure be nice if something already existed within pine64...

Maybe @tllim knows?

Big Grin Is the latest PinePhone CE that is shipping now a semi-stable device ?
Posted by: kern707 - 11-05-2020, 07:22 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (21)

Hello everybody,

This is my first post, I am new on the forum.

I am a years long linux user on a daily basis, but I have not yet tried a real linux-based phone, that is why I have ordered the latest CE of the PinePhone (ships with Manjaro pre-installed, I have chosen the 3GB version), I am in Europe and I hope that soon I will be getting a shipping notification :-)

One question that I could not find a reliable (or more precisely "recent" answer) on the forum:

Is the latest PinePhone CE with the latest version of Manjaro (incl. Posh), can be described as a release of a relatively stable device at least for calls, SMS, and wifi / LTE connectivity ?

I mean, I am capable of fiddling with software configuration, research some issues to find solutions etc.. but how about a semi-solid hardware + software combi? something that we could say that ok Voice calls, SMS and connectivity works seamlessly out of the box, and the rest is in constant development.

if not, what are the current open issues, and what further efforts needs to be made to get the device into such positioning?

I would love to drop my iPhone and use the PinePhone as my one and only mobile phone.

Any input will be much appreciated, I am a PinePhone Starter :-)

Hey guys, I have had my pinetime a few weeks now and after a few hiccups and great suggestions from certain people I have got the watch working ok except from the time and date, does anyone know of an companion apps that would let me set the date and time on the watch through IOS I have tried a few and they all don’t seem to either find the pinetime or it just says it couldn’t find any Bluetooth signals.   How does Pine64 decide who will be next for each Community Edition?

I’ve never seen any public mention of how this is determined/negotiated.

Arabic language support in Manjaro new Edition
Posted by: Nido - 11-05-2020, 12:40 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Dear Pine-Experts,
after newbie generalised look at the new Manjaro information.. is a Majaro phone operable in Arabic (text writing - messaging in Arabic).. or is it only for English speaking people ?
I like the phone for its form factor, battery, humble nice look etc. But I am really concerned if I can write Arabic using its keyboard.

Many thanks in advance,

When did the wifi module start working?
Posted by: stormchaser3000 - 11-04-2020, 08:30 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - Replies (1)

Hello,

I installed Armbian on my RockPro64 tonight, and to my surprise, the wifi module actually works. Not only does it work, it works really well. I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me when support for the wifi module became complete? Just curiosity on my part.

Thanks,

3 Day Old Manjaro Convergence Edition 4 Sale
Posted by: NobodyNew1 - 11-04-2020, 08:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (28)

Hello,
I just received my pinephone, but it doesn't work with T-Mobile, I'm not switching carriers for it, so I'm selling it. I have put a Verizon SIM Card in the phone and it shows bars. Granted the SIM isn't activated so not sure how the phone behaves with an active SIM in it. If anyone want to give me what I paid for it $225.00, I can ship it out this Saturday US only please, just DM me.
This is so so so depressing and upsetting. The simple fact Pine64 can't get their act together, is sad to me. I wanted a linux phone so bad. I wrote and raved and was ok with it not being a fully working phone and a project in progress, but this is unforgivable to me. Especially when I had a PMOS edition that worked with a T-Mobile SIM. I hate to be the whiner or complainer, but when you have previous edition working and the following edition doesn't. This doesn't only hurt the life of a linux phone, but as a first time buyer of any Pine64 product I honestly won't purchase anything from them, they might be a great company but all trust is lost for me.
I would like to say I'd buy the next edition, but I won't. I won't spend another $225.00, wait for a month, to then maybe receive a phone that might work with my carrier it's a crap shoot.

Just received Pinephone - system crashes
Posted by: Zebulon Walton - 11-04-2020, 08:01 PM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (12)

I just received my Pinephone "Manjaro With Convergence Package" and have been playing around with it a bit just as a pocket Linux computer - I've not tried to do anything with a SIM card yet.

The good: Screen is very nice, good brightness and no dead pixels. The phone connected to my home wi-fi with no issues. Although the back of the phone does feel kind of fragile I figured out how to get it off and back on with no problem. Maybe will order an extra or two "just in case". Internal speaker test worked, and volume seemed good. Haven't tried any real audio yet but the test sounded clear and undistorted. Overall feel of the hardware is that of a solid product.

The bad: I realize the Manjaro software is still alpha, but I wanted to get some feedback on whether what I'm seeing is expected, or am I looking at possible hardware issues. (Is something like memtest available for diags?)

So far I've had two system crashes where it was necessary to remove the battery to reboot the phone since it would not even respond to the power button. This happened once while running the Terminal application, and another time in Settings. Now I have Mozilla Firefox running and that browser has locked up and does not respond, though the OS is still responsive. (I'm not able to kill Firefox using the "X" after minimizing though. How do you kill a locked-up application? Since Wayland is in use I assume xkill wouldn't work.)

If these problems are simply due to the alpha nature of the software, is Manjaro updated in-place or is it necessary to reinstall the OS as development continues? (I know, read the wiki and the Manjaro forum!)

As I am typing this the phone locked up again, totally unresponsive, while in Settings... but looking at the Manjaro ARM Beta1 known issues, I see "UI becomes unresponsive after a while." So maybe it is just software crashes, though I note that not only does the UI crash but the power button doesn't work when this happens. Maybe will try some other Linux distributions while Manjaro continues to improve and see if those have similar problems. Should be fun!
