  USB3 to Ethernet adapter
Posted by: giuseppe - 11-11-2020, 05:48 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - No Replies

Hi, I want to use an USB3 to Ethernet adapter for my Rock64 (Armbian 20.08.16 Bionic with Linux 5.8.16-rockchip64). Is there some suggested adapter or I can choose any?

  emmc vs NVMe real-world performances
Posted by: Henry - 11-11-2020, 04:23 PM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (7)

I am considering upgrading my Pinebook Pro with NVMe memory (at the moment it's using the stock emmc module). I am wondering what difference would it make on the Pinebook Pro for common, real world use-cases, and if it's worth it. Of course, boot times and moving/copying files would be noticeably faster, and browsing the internet would probably not be affected, but what about general responsiveness and other common tasks, such as:

  • Starting/using desktop applications
  • Compiling from sources
  • Installing packages
  • Playing "heavy" 3D games (my testbench is Supertuxkart)
I don't need benchmarks (even though that would be great), just anedoctical evidence is enough. Fundamentally, I would like to know if upgrading the memory will improve the general user experience with the Pinebook Pro and make it feel faster and snappier.

I searched the forum for this and, while there are multiple posts on how to install memory, I could not find anything related to performances. If I missed a relevant post, a reference would be of great help!

  MMS Download Script
Posted by: antiX-Dave - 11-11-2020, 02:23 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (13)

Just finished cleaning up / redoing my bash script for downloading mms messages. It appears that others have already published their programs/scripts for working with MMS and some are now working on better implementations. Thought I would share mine anyway in case it helps somehow.

Script:
https://gitlab.com/antiX-Dave/mms-downlo...s-download

It will need / should have installed curl, recoverjpeg, libnotify-bin, sox
apt install curl recoverjpeg libnotify-bin sox

You will need to modify the variables in the script at least to show your service providers mms proxy and mms proxy port

I also have this running on a cron job every 5 minutes.
For this you also need to install cron
apt install --no-install-recommends cron

A couple others I have noticed working on mms when looking where to post this

Help connecting a dvb board in the right gpio pins
Posted by: cosmodeal - 11-11-2020, 12:48 PM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - No Replies

Hello,

I've got a DVB-S2 board from a mecool KII pro box and I'm trying to connect it to the rock64 board. I found a diagram in the Libreelec forum for connecting the dvb board to an Odroid N2 and I have tried to guess mecool pin 24 position, instead of going to 11 (NC), I've connexcted to 7 since both say CLK

Do you guys think that the connections are correct? Perhaps Mecool number 24 ought to go into Rock64 number 15?

At the moment the dvb board is not being detected. I'm trying to find  driver for the tuner (AVL6862) I've tried compiling some gits from Libreelec devs but they fail to compile. The same for LinuxTV git. Is there any hope of getting working drivers for this tuner and succeed with my setup?

Many thanks for your help

  Mobian virtual keyboard stopped working
Posted by: jim.uren@gmail.com - 11-11-2020, 11:43 AM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - No Replies

After a recent update, the virtual keyboard stopped working on my Mobian Pinephone.

SSH is still working so I can log in from my Linux laptop and continue to do updates hoping one of them will fix the problem but this has been going on for a number of days now.

Is there a way while logged in via SSH that I can reset the virtual keyboard?

  3GB/32GB mainboard troubleshooting advice
Posted by: retlaw - 11-11-2020, 07:26 AM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (8)

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some troubleshooting tips.  I just installed the new 3GB/32GB mainboard and have installed the new JumpDrive 0.6 image.

When I try to power it up I get no response at all.   No backlight, no led, nothing.  If I plug it into the computer I do get a unknown usb device but thats all.

I have reinstalled the original board and it works fine.

Looking for any tips or troubleshooting advice.

Thanks,

Walt

Hi All!

I tried to install packages using "sudo apk add xxx" or simply to check the upgrades via "sudo apk upgrade". Nothing really works...
All I get is
ERROR: unable to select packages:

What do I do wrong?

Thank you!

Question Manjaro update process / state on the PinePhone Manjaro CE
Posted by: kern707 - 11-11-2020, 03:48 AM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (5)

Hello to all,

I have recently received one of the latest delivered PinePhone CE devices pre-installed with Manjaro / Phosh.

I am completely new to the PinePhone, and also to Manjaro :-) and I was wondering, how can I verify if my device is currently running on the latest stable release of Manjaro?

I have seen the "Software" app, where there is an "Updates" tab, there I could initially (after first using the PinePhone out of the box) find some updates and install them (one update was related to a system update - not sure if that means an update of Manjaro it self?)

How is the OS update process is being done with Manjaro on the PinePhone, via the "Software" app's "Updates" functionality ? or do I need to manually invoke it via terminal using some commands?

Right now when going to "Software", under the "Updates" tab and refreshing, I am getting the message that all of my software is up-to-date, does that also cover the Manjaro distro it self?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

  IPv6 broken on pine64.org
Posted by: zhaofeng - 11-10-2020, 10:49 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hi there, just a note that the IPv6 address in pine64.org's AAAA record is not reachable. I have an IPv6-only network at home (with NAT64+DNS64) so IPv4 fallback is not possible without overriding the DNS manually. The forum (forum.pin64.org) does not have an AAAA record, which ironically makes it usable for me through NAT64. There are many websites with IPv6 addresses that do not work (perhaps they tried to support IPv6 at first but neglected it), and this is worse than not having an AAAA record at all. Thanks and keep up the good work!
