Disable the GDM service in Mobian.
Posted by: mburns - 11-25-2023, 10:19 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - No Replies

Code:
# systemctl disable gdm.service

This service can be disabled for faster startup with Mobian. It is just redundant apparently.

[Article] RISC-V Ox64 BL808 SBC: NuttX Apps and Initial RAM Disk

In Asia the wise folks say: “One can hide on a certain day but cannot hide for a long time / 躲过初一,躲不过十五”

In other words: “Transformers? More than meets the eye!”

In this article, we go behind the shadow puppetry (wayang kulit) and deceptive simplicity of NuttX Applications inside Apache NuttX RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) for Pine64 Ox64 BL808 64-bit RISC-V SBC:

(1) What’s inside the simplest NuttX App
(2) How NuttX Apps make RISC-V System Calls to NuttX Kernel
(3) Virtual Memory for NuttX Apps
(4) Loading of ELF Executables by NuttX Kernel
(5) Bundling of NuttX Apps into the Initial RAM Disk
(6) How we found the right spot to park our Initial RAM Disk

  PINE64 EU / Disappointment
Posted by: yoriel79 - 11-24-2023, 10:41 AM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

Hi,
The 11th of October, I made the purchase of a Pinecil V2 on https://pine64eu.com, and to this day, I still haven't received it. I have already sent 8 emails trying to resolve the issue, and they have only responded to the first one. I have called them, and I have only gotten good words. I feel cheated. Can anyone help me?

Battery discharges completely while the Tab2 is powered off between less than 24hs
Posted by: nonic - 11-24-2023, 07:46 AM - Forum: PineTab Hardware - Replies (4)

Hi,

I got a PineTab2 some days ago. It still runs with the presinstalled OS.
Does anyone know the problem described in the title and how to solve it?

And another question I have about the battey ist how to improve the charging-speed. I use a powerfull charger from my Laptop which charges the battery of it in less than 2.5 hours. But to charge the battery of the PinteTab ist takes more than 5 hours. Is there a way to optimize this.

Greetings

It shows almost always 000 instead of my HR and it’s annoying me because I need to know it to best calibrate my sport activities and because I bought it mainly for it!! Is it happening just to me or it’s a known bug?
It seems that HR monitor is working well just when I don’t move! Don’t know if this info could be important but I thought to write it here!

Rock64 is unreliable after 3 years of service - power problem?
Posted by: ReleaseTheGeese - 11-23-2023, 05:05 AM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (1)

Greetings all,

I have a Rock64 that I was using to self-host some services (namely Nextcloud).

It was powered on 24/7 for the best part of 3 years. It was connected by my router by ethernet. The only other connection was an external hard drive - the HDD had its own power supply so wouldn't have a high draw from the R64.

Around a year and a half into service, the USB 3.0 port that had the HDD connected stopped working. No matter, I just plugged it into one of the USB 2.0 ports and didn't experience any loss in performance.

Now it seems the whole unit is suffering from something. The ethernet connection shows on my router and I can ping the box, but as soon as I try SSH I am disconnected. I can begin a HTTP request but Apache fails with an internal server error message. When I power it on and view the console output on a monitor, I can login using a keyboard and nothing seems amiss in the OS (Armbian).

That said, if I connect anything to USB after the unit is powered on, it immediately reboots.

Something isn't right here. I suspect power related, but I'm not sure. These problems came all at once.

Would appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks, RTG.

Various freezes during boot & while running several Linux distros - hardware error?
Posted by: donuts - 11-22-2023, 11:26 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hi, I bought a Pinebook Pro in august 2022. I never got the Pinebook Pro to work properly. I've tried several Linux distros from different micro SD cards & internal emmc. Sometimes the boot process stuck or some programs (firefox, gnom or the whole desktop) were frozen after some minutes. Lately I have tried to use Manjaro-ARM-kde-plasma-pbpro-23.02, kali-linux-2023.3-pinebook-pro-arm64 & Armbian_23.8.1_Pinebook-pro_bookworm_current_6.1.50_cinnamon_desktop without any luck. I flashed Tow-boot.spi (pine64-pinebookPro-2021.10-005.tar.xz) but sometimes it was frozen during boot medium selection. After such a freeze I usually did a soft reset (holding power button for 10 seconds) and then I faced another freeze at a different position.

Since I had some problems with the micro SD reader in the beginning I have often disassembled the back plate and wrote the Linux distro direct to the emmc from my computer. I have lost two screws so could that cause the "random freezes"? I will attach some photos. Maybe I destroyed something in the Pinebook Pro? I will also attach the log directory of my latest Armbian.

Is there anything else I could try or provide for error tracking?

Thanks for your time

Firefox Crashes on Start-up (latest installer) & How do I change Default Browser?
Posted by: aLoop100o - 11-22-2023, 04:26 AM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (1)

Hi, I  installed postmarket/phosh on my pinephone (regular version, not the pro) using the latest stable image (https://images.postmarketos.org/bpo/v23....one/phosh/).
Firefox will show that it is loading for roughly 5 seconds, then crash.

Until this gets fixed, how can I make the OS recognize another browser as the default browser?

google will take control of android in the future.

google will take control of android in the future.

moderators may not like this topic, which is basically google and android bashing.

i predicted somewhere around that 2021, google will lock android somehow within few years. introducing fuchsiaos kernel, banning bootloader unlocking, using more closed components, changing api in android core and so on. google already has "google play services" and "google play", which are closed components and many android apps are dependent on those.

so i basically, repeat same prediction, open android is gone after few years, maybe 2027.

ungoogled android is still open now, but i predict that ungoogled android is practically gone after few years, android will be like what ios is now.

google/alphabet/youtube is reportedly slowing down youtube (some users report this). google plans to introduce banning ad blockers in chrome (i don't know chromium though), https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/11/...june-2024/ . these are worrisome developments.

just in case, apple's system are totally controlled by apple. including macs with m-chips.

looking back, maybe i knew more or less few years back, and i went to pinephone train. in short, there's not going to be software and hardware freedom in android.
