  New Clusterboard Setup
Posted by: wargfn - 11-29-2020, 07:21 PM - Forum: Clusterboard - Replies (5)

So I am trying to get a new clusterboard up and running and want to use an ATX power supply as the main power source.  So I got a EVGA 450 W3 power supply. Got the board installed into a ThermalTake Core V1 case. Power Supply is hooked up and no juice. Flicking the power supply to the on position give me nothing. Not even a hint that the fan on the PSU spun.

I am assuming that my issue now is that I need a J2 Power switch and short that to an ON position; however, I thought I would ask if anyone else is using a regular ATX Power supply  instead of a Pico one. I want to also use the Molex connections to power some fans in the case and some other converted electronics projects.

PSU Spec Sheet

My second question is, what J2 Custom Options have you guys been using to power on the ATX Power Supply as a Switch?

  Fedora 32 gcc or clang
Posted by: tydeman - 11-29-2020, 06:32 PM - Forum: Linux on Pinebook Pro - Replies (4)

I installed Fedora 32 KDE Plasma today (Nov 29, 2020) from the Pine website.
Used dnf to so some 424 updates and rebooted (so system was current).
Then tried to do:
  dnf install gcc
  dnf install clang
Both failed due to missing kernel headers being filtered out.

I am now doing an upgrade from Fedora 32 to 33 as per
  https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/qui...m-upgrade/
The 3172 actions are taking a while.  Once done, I will see if I can
install either gcc or clang C compilers.

This system is running on a 64 GB uSD card.

  Success!

After replacing the screen that I managed to crack on my new Pinephone (an interesting experience), I finally installed a Tracfone SIM for the AT&T network and activated it using a pre-paid Tracfone card. OS is the latest nightly build of Mobian as of this writing.

After activating the SIM and rebooting I found that basic voice calling and SMS both worked immediately. Pretty impressive for alpha software! Voice quality is not the greatest but is usable and will no doubt improve with updates. (People on the other end say it sounds muffled but they can understand me.) Interestingly at first the phone connected via 3G, then it switched to 4G.

So in theory when I'm ready to use this as my daily driver, a SIM for my regular AT&T account should work. Thanks and a tip o' the hat to the Pinephone and Mobian teams! (And to the guys on the hardware board that helped me get through the screen replacement!)

How To Lay Hands on a True 64-bit Debian Install?
Posted by: vandys - 11-29-2020, 02:05 PM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (4)

I'm a little but befuddled.  Debian claims to have "support" for the RockPro64, but various installs of their images either hang in the middle of booting, or make some indecipherable statement about kernel modules.

MrFixIt's minimal image boots and looks GREAT.  But it's armhf, and I really need MongoDB on the machine.

A Devuan arm64 install img would be fantastic!  Or how I can I put together a Debian boot image which actually works (and is 64-bit)?

Most OS's mentioned here don't make it clear if they're armhf or aarch64, and it's pretty tedious to be pulling and burning entire install images just to find out.

TIA,
Andy Valencia

  Contact app broken on edge
Posted by: jmorris - 11-29-2020, 01:39 PM - Forum: PostmarketOS on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Been seeing a problem with the Edge version now for over a week.  Can anyone else duplicate it?

Open Contacts.  View one, edit it.  Open the additional fields with the three dots and fill something in, I have been using Nickname.  Save.  Wait.  Contacts closes abnormally and going back you find the edit didn't stick.

This is in ~/.cache/tinydm.log

Pretty sure nothing is randomly corrupted on my phone.  apk audit --system --check-permissions comes back clean.  Made a fresh user account and set it as the autologin user and it still happens.

Another, possibly related, issue is when SMS messages appear, sometimes you can click them to view, sometimes you click and nothing happens.  I'm on a paygo plan that sends a billing notice showing remaining balance, etc. after every transaction.  Been getting billing notices and no call or text to go with it.

Convergence package USB-C Docking Bar for Wired Ethernet
Posted by: piney-tim - 11-29-2020, 12:13 PM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - No Replies

Trying to use the USB-C docking bar that comes with the convergence package for wired ethernet with Ubuntu Touch with no success. Has anyone else tried it and gotten it to work? If so, can you help me with some tips?

On my Manjaro community edition pinephone with ubuntu touch flashed and dock connected the "ip link" command shows no eth0 but three other links:
- lo (loopback),
- wlan0 (wifi)
- wwan0 (cell data)

So far I've found no other information about how to get it working. it works fine with manjaro.

PINEBOOK Pro USB-C Docking Deck compatibility
Posted by: zxorg - 11-29-2020, 01:33 AM - Forum: General - Replies (8)

Hello people, just saw on twitter the new PINEBOOK Pro USB-C Docking Deck.
I have 2 question though:

  1. Does this USB-C dock work with any USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port say MSi notebook?
  2. In my consideration the cable is too short. Some notebooks have the USB-C on the back of the computer so you need at least half a meter to put the dock properly on the side, otherwise you have to buy an extension.

  How to update the OS
Posted by: markc - 11-28-2020, 11:26 PM - Forum: Manjaro on PinePhone - Replies (8)

This is embarrasing but I briefly saw the option to update the OS when I first turned on my Manjaro phone but now I can't find how to update the OS and google is not my friend today. Is there a video somewhere that CLEARLY shows how to update the OS?

Also, FWIW, it took me 1/2 an hour of wasted time on youtube just to find out that the initial lockscreen passcode is 123456.
