  briicked, fix from MASKROM mode?
Posted by: QuinTeknoLife - 05-20-2021, 03:13 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook Pro - Replies (1)

Hey all,

During trying to flash TwisterOS to my emmc I seemingly have done something wrong, causing my pbp to brick. To my horror I found out that it's also refusing to boot from SD, however MASKROM mode still is working. I tried flipping switch 24 both ways and SD boot refused both cases. I sadly do not have the usb emmc adapter (because I actually won this device Tongue)

Does anybody have an idea how to restore/flash Manjaro or any other distro using MASKROM and rkdevtool? I have a machine with both Win10 and linux (with rkdevtool on both) available for flashing.

Edit: some progress! Using the instructions on the bottom of this page ( https://lists.denx.de/pipermail/u-boot/2...03041.html ) I have gotten the pbp to the point where the power led will light up green without SD, but with SD still nothing happens.

Question PineBook Pro shipping to India
Posted by: User 22380 - 05-20-2021, 01:23 AM - Forum: Shipment Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello everyone

I'd like to buy PineBook Pro and have it shipped to India.
Unfortunately, the store says that there are no shipment options available.

I've read a couple of posts from fellow Indians and inferred that we used
to ship to India in past. Is the unavailability recent/temporary?

I've contacted a local reseller FabToLab about it and they too said that the
product is unavailable (although their web-store says otherwise).

It'd be great if anyone can let me know if/when can shipping be available
to India. Or why can it not be available in foreseeable future. (e.g. maybe
because customs are rejecting it)

Peace

Running Manjaro KDE on pinebook pro, yet to be successful having an appimage run. Am I missing a prerequisite that I need? The only info I seem to see on searches is to change permissions on the file and it magically runs - not…..

Video Problem Booting from SD card

Have been having problems booting from a SD card. Is there a some key to press on the keyboard to start the boot process so I can choose SD card. Or do I need to use the terminal? All in all I have been spending much to much time on this. Is there anyone  that can help me on this? Thanks

  Convergence: battery is constantly discharging/charging
Posted by: arjan1995 - 05-19-2021, 02:41 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - Replies (5)

Hi folks,

Today I share an interesting find with the PinePhone's battery profile when using it with the convergence dock.
I've installed Cronie and shell script which sends the battery voltage and level (percentage) to my RPi server every minute. (from /sys/class/power-supply/axp20x-battery/)
The server then is able to plot a graph of these measurements.

When fully charged (at 86%, due to the 4.2v safety limit being applied) and plugged in with convergence dock (USB-c charger, HDMI display, usb keyboard/mouse, media playing so it won't go to sleep), the graph reveals that the battery does not stay at the same level but constantly discharges and then recharges again.

With a laptop for example, this does not happen. It stays at 100% and the voltage is constant.

How does this affect the battery in terms of longevity and efficiency?

Screen Power Consumption Brightness=0 vs Turn off
Posted by: somefoo - 05-19-2021, 12:54 PM - Forum: PinePhone Hardware - No Replies

Heya

I have a question regarding the power consumption of the screen on the Pinephone. I was under the impression that if the screen brightness is 0 that the power consumption of the display should be very low. But there seems to be a huge difference between turning the screen off and setting the brightness to 0. Could someone explain this to me? I understand that while the screen is on and the brightness is 0, we still are still drawing, but I don't expect that to cost 0.5w. I don't know much about display technologies and the hardware behind getting them running, but I would appreciate an explanation.

0.90w: xrandr --output DSI-1 --off (OR xset dpms force off OR xset dpms force standby OR however you want to turn of the screen Tongue )
1.44w: echo 0     > /sys/devices/platform/backlight/backlight/backlight/brightness
1.49w: echo 100 > /sys/devices/platform/backlight/backlight/backlight/brightness
1.51w: echo 200 > /sys/devices/platform/backlight/backlight/backlight/brightness
2.08w: echo 600 > /sys/devices/platform/backlight/backlight/backlight/brightness

Many thanks Big Grin

Power supply underpowered for Rockpro64, deficient PCIe SATA card, or something else?
Posted by: daffy - 05-19-2021, 12:21 PM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (8)

Quote:Hi! I have a Rockpro64 NAS-- I bought just about everything listed on the wiki for the setup (https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/NASCase).

I use two 3.5" Hitachi HDDs connected via the PCIe SATA adapter (bought from Pine store) for my data drive (I use only 1 drive actively-- the other is for backup-- not RAID). The OS (Armbian 21.05.1 Buster with Linux 4.4.213-rockchip64 with OMV) runs on eMMC. The unit, including the 2 internal HDDs, runs on the 12V 5A power supply I bought from Pine store. The HDDs are powered with the "custom power cable" that came with the Pine NAS box.

Every time I try to copy large files (a few hundred MB and larger) to the data HDD in my NAS server, the transfer fails and the filesystem drops to read-only.

Thinking that it could be drive failure, I have cloned (with clonezilla) the data drive two times to try other (new) HDDs but the problem persists. So, this isn't a drive failure issue.

On top of this, when I copy large files to an external HDD with its own power supply that is attached to the NAS via USB (of course, this isn't using the SATA card either since it's using USB), the transfer works perfectly and does not fail.

So, one possibility is that I am not getting enough power to the internal HDDs, which causes the copy to fail and the filesystem to drop to read-only. I have tried different circuits in my house (U.S. so 120V) thinking that maybe one circuit is overtaxed, but I still have the same problem.

I have seen in some other threads (e.g. https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=9079) that some folks have not been happy with the PCIe SATA adapter that is offered in the Pine store. Anybody have thoughts on this?

Or does anyone have any other suggestions on what my problem could be?

Can you please advise on what I can do to fix this problem? Do I need to buy a beefier power supply or a different PCIe SATA card?

Thanks in advance.

Ordered Pinecil + misc stuff in March, haven't heard anything, zoho website fail
Posted by: nazrin - 05-19-2021, 11:08 AM - Forum: Shipment Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello,

Sorry something like this had to be my first post but I don't really have another option.

I ordered a Pinecil + some miscellaneous goodies for my PBP on March 31, the same time I ordered my PBP. The Pinebook got here a couple weeks ago and I'm very pleased with it. However, I haven't got any e-mails regarding the pinecil order and since it's been quite awhile I figured I should check into it. I shot the support team a quick e-mail to ask if I should expect any e-mails or to wait but I got an automated response saying to use the zoho ticket website. I remember I used it back in march/early april to inquire if I could combine shipping with the pinecil + a pinepower PSU because  I forgot to get one. I went to reset the password since I didn't have it saved in my pw mananger program and the links to reset the password don't work at all, they timeout while the zoho website itself works fine (tried from two different devices and three different browsers, all the same result).

Has anyone here received their pinecil from the late March batch?  Can anyone see if the password reset page for zoho works as intended on their end?

Cheers!

I ran the `glmark2-es2` and `glmark2-es2-wayland` benchmarks (on Manjaro with Plasma Wayland and mesa 21.1.0). Surprisingly, I got radically different results:
