Recent thread item says installed plasma beta7 update. My information tab in settings says 5.xxx for kde. I would like info on:
Where is the beta7 update available?
Can I install a kde plasma update through pacman online update or do I need to install manjaro +plasma through a flash?
If it can be obtained through pacman how do I reference the search and update on the commandline?
thanks for any info, tom kosvic

Phone stuck in a login loop |

I received this phone on Sept 2, had a problem with it from get-go. Unless it is connected to a charger it sticks in a login loop. That is: enter password, accepted, display for about 5 seconds, enter password etc, etc. etc..
While the phone was on the charger I tried a software update as suggested. That kept crashing with libcanbera 0.30+2+ unmet dependencies. After a lot of searching I discovered how to update from the terminal with Pacman (always thought that was an arcade game from the ‘70s). That crashed and could not be updated due to locked files which had to be removed using the terminal. This happened 3 or 4 times.
With the last update try I left it over night on the charger.
Update success: but: It is still stuck in the login loop.
Is this PinePhone quality control or did I just get a piece of junk?

now, sxmo has a alternative window manager, wayland, built in. We can choose it in the settings menu. But my sxmo says: your device looks not ready yet. Am I wrong in supposing wayland support is built in with, say, latest edge download of postmarket sxmo?
For example, this one?
https://images.postmarketos.org/bpo/edge...hone/sxmo/
Actually, I'd say even a older install might receive wayland support on update.
Anybody knows more about that? Do we need to additionally install wayland in sxmo?

| Unable to hear caller or speak after answering a call |

Hi, I just installed some updates to Manjaro w/ Phosh on my pinephone a couple of days ago, and since then I haven't been able to speak or hear the caller when I answer a call, or make an outgoing one. I can't confidently attribute the change to the updates though, as I'm the target of ongoing cyber attacks.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
It would be helpful to know if this is a bug in the OS that came with the latest wave of updates or some other attack.
The only other thing I did in the same timeframe is attempt to install Pidgin on my phone for messaging, and a facebook messaging protocol library for it. I would have thought it extremely unlikely that those could impact such core functions of telephony.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, as always.

I got my PinePhone a couple of weeks and struggled with the default Manjaro/Plasma combination for a while. It took three attempts to get the OS set up with the PinePhone freezing the first two times. I managed to get the OS updated. After it was set up the PinePhone would hang for short and longer periods, the UI would become unresponsive to swipes and taps and generally it felt like I was using an alpha product. I also experienced the dark screen after login issue which I was able to fix with information from the forum.
I am now running stock Mobian off an SD card and the difference is like light and day. Running from SD card Mobian is faster and much more usable. The UI is much more responsive. I would have assumed that the eMMC is faster than an SD card so was a bit surprised by this.
So, could it be that I have a problem with the OS image my PinePhone shipped with, or the eMMC or is my experience with Manjaro/Plasma about par for the (current) course?
I have to admit that the Manjaro repository having a build of SeaMonkey is almost enough to make me want to switch back even though "sudo apt-get" is ingrained in my finger memory

| Feature request: storing a contact after they call you |

It would be great if Manjaro w/ Phosh could make it easy for a user to create a new phone contact immediately after someone calls you, using the caller's number without having to reenter it.
At the moment when someone calls, I reach for pen & paper and write down their number, then manually create a new contact then type in the details from my notes. This would be a small but important feature worth adding that would improve the user experience enormously for those of us using the pinephone as a "daily driver".
Thanks in advance, and overall great job with the OS and the whole Pinephone project. I'll be making a video review soon, now that I consider it suitable for regular daily use. It's come a long way in the past year, so high fives all round!

| PinePhone Wallet Case |

I just received this wallet case today.
It fits the PinePhone better than I expected.
The clips hold to the edges and they don't cover the screen.
The whole phone easily slides up to reveal the camera to take photos.
Holds my ID and 3 cards.
Here is the link: (Make sure you are looking at the Dark Black variety ONLY. I don't know anything about those other models in this same listing. Red Brown looks the same, but that isn't what I purchased.)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P9LBYY3/
FYI: My PinePhone is Manjaro Convergence Edition if the design has changed at all since then (I have no idea.)
EDIT:
A few more things I noticed:
The speaker holes line up well enough to speak on calls with the case closed.
The clips hold the phone in the middle of the case allowing airflow which is a bonus.
The only con that I can tell so far is that metal credit cards will probably scratch the screen.
