  Problems after Tow-Boot
Posted by: Dinosaur1946 - 09-02-2022, 09:27 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Hi All

Been using the Pinephone daily for some time now, and also daily updates and upgrades.
About 2 months ago I started having problems after updates, so I bit the bullet and went for
a re-write of the image to the latest.

Soon discovered that Tow-Boot was now needed.
Installed as per instructions and tried it.
The main problem was that opening settings menu worked, but as soon as I selected say "Wifi",
the settings menu would close and the Wifi settings would not come up.

The only was I could get my phone back, was to install an image from May 2022 which didn't require Tow-Boot
and all worked correctly again.

However the upgrades are starting to add up to about 475, so I am sure that if I upgrade the onboard emmc
the same problem will come back.

This time I am trying to install the latest image on the micro SD to prove or find a solution to this issue.
The procedure I followed:
Wrote Tow-Boot to on board emmc. (the May image still works correctly after that) using balena Etcher
Wrote 20220821.img.gz firstly to the SD with the PC.
Booted by holding Volume down and tested to find the same problem still exists.

Then wrote the same image to the SD plugged into the phone, same problem STILL.

Here is what I don't get:
I have a stock standard PP64 phone that has the touch screen replaced (by me) that works perfectly on May 2022 images.
I write a verified image to either the phone or SD and it always fails with the same problem.

Then someone wrote about Enabling Animations (probably different issue) but the first step, Settings> Accessibility just closes
the Settings menu again. Some Settings sub menu's do work (Network for example) but 95% of them just close the Settings menu.

I can't update or upgrade as the Wifi has not been initialized.

Anybody have any ideas ?

Regards

  rock64 totally brick
Posted by: dakobg - 09-02-2022, 05:18 PM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (2)

Hi,

I do not have any idea what happen

I have several rock64 but one of them look like is brick!!!

I think the problem is with spi u-boot (or something else?!)
I try with different sd-carts different images including erase and flash u-boot-spi
Also I try to boot with shorting pins 25+23 or 25+21 and release after 2 -3 seconds after power is plugged .. this not help as well

I open a ticket to pine64 support .. they totally reject me .. short answer was .. check in the forum this is software issue they will help

At power-on all 3 lights are on + yellow on ethernet port
serial uart show .. nothing just from time to time no senses symbols (and yes I'm sure I use/connect correctly work with all other rock64 )

My quick question's

1. any idea
2. is there a way to try somehow to reflash rock64 ?! (look like I cannot do that for SPI only)

I think the problem can be something else not in spi .. also power adapter is ok for sure

I do not want to RIP this rock64 in the garbage since the situation with the chips is still terrible and will be waste of chips Smile   but if I do not have other options .. Sad

  Pinephone power consumption figures?
Posted by: girl - 09-02-2022, 05:06 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (5)

Hey all, I'm going to setup a file server and seed box running on a 4G modem for use in a campervan I'm buildling. I just wondering if anyone has any idea of how much power the pinephone consumes when plugged in 24/7? I'm considering using the pinephone instaed of an SBC and WWAN module, because it may be cheaper and/or simpler, but given I'll be running everything off of solar, I want to optimise the power consumption.

  Phosh remote desktop
Posted by: Barugon - 09-02-2022, 03:50 PM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - Replies (5)

Anyone know how to get desktop sharing working on Phosh? Currently, I'm using Manjaro but I could easily switch to another distro if it's easier to get it working.

Specifically, I want to create a new session with a full desktop, not share the phone screen.

  Hey Phosh Folks !!

I'm hoping that the Phosh staff read these articles.
We really do need a 'disable onscreen keyboard' switch.
It could be located in the Phosh banner at the top with the other switches.
I have noted that Postmarket os KDE Plasma has a disable keyboard widget.
Just a suggestion that 10's of thousands would agree with I suppose?

Is there any plan to make a Pinebook Pro based on the RK3588?

It has 8 cores:

[*]4x ARM Cortex-A76 @ 2.6 GHz
[*]4x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz

  PinePhone for Kids
Posted by: iraklisam - 09-01-2022, 11:50 AM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (2)

Hi All,

Here is my problem:
I want a phone for my 10 year old boy. This phone should have only one function: dial a number and make a call. Actually 3 numbers: emergency, my number and my spouse's number. Also I want phone to receive calls (it is a phone after all). I want everything else to be disabled or blocked (including camera) when he is using the device.
Questions:
1. Does PinePhone support multiple users (root and regular user) so that I can set up the phone and give it to kid.
2. Is it possible to block everything except phone call function?

Thank you very much for your understanding and feedback.

  Serial console pinout?
Posted by: jlucas - 09-01-2022, 09:31 AM - Forum: PinePhone Accessories - Replies (2)

Hey I found some contradicting information on the wiki regarding the serial cable pinout:

In this wiki page it says that the tip is RX and the ring TX.
But right below it links to this PDF which says the opposite - tip is Tx and ring 1 is Rx.

Which one is correct?
