  Just saying hello and some of my concerns
Posted by: nonic - 11-04-2022, 05:43 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PinePhone - Replies (3)

Hello members of the pine64 users community,

my order of a "Pinephone Beta Convergence" I made recently is still in progress. I'm also thinking about to buy some additional parts.
I have watched many different reviews with a lot of different opinions and complaints.
But none of them really answered the question if the performance problems could be solved with a GPU Driver which would support Hardware Acceleration of the GPU or if the limits of the Allwinner A64 with the MALI-400MP2 are already reached out with the available drivers.
Indirect people express this way that the A64 with its 40nm structure could have been the the wrong choice for a mobild device because it had a to low performance in general or would get to hot / consumt to much power per performance for that use case.
Additionally I read in this forum something about issues with a decreasing display functionality / destruction related to higher system temperatures and do Both seems to be a problem of manufacturing quality or the use of 2nd class batches.
I would be very happy to get some of your opinions about these things.

Thank your very much.

  Android SDK Build.
Posted by: west0330 - 11-03-2022, 01:15 AM - Forum: Android on Quartz64 - Replies (1)

Hi.
I'm using a Quartz64 -A SBC and QUARTZ64_SDK_android11.tar.gz.

SDK link:
http://files.pine64.org/SDK/Quartz64/QUA...d11.tar.gz

These are the steps that I took:
$ source build/envsetup.sh
$ lunch
$ 26 (rk3566_rgo-userdebug)
$ ./build.sh -UCKAu

However, unlike the image in the link below, it does not boot.

Test pre-build image:
- Quartz64_model-A_20210604_stock_android11_emmcboot.img
- Quartz64_model-A_dd_20210604_stock_android11_emmcboot-16GB.img.gz

Is the content of the link the only way?
Or do you need another additional method?

  Rock64 won't boot
Posted by: luminosity7 - 11-02-2022, 08:22 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (10)

Hi:

I have a new Rock64. So far I am 0/2 in terms of getting OSes to boot. First I tried DietPi (DietPi_ROCK64-ARMv8-Bullseye.7z) . Followed directions, unzipped OS, flashed with Etcher.  It never booted just had a flashing red light. Next I tried one of the recommended Ambian (Armbian_22.08.8_Rock64_jammy_current_5.15.74_xfce_desktop). This was one actually booted into the command line but once I made a user and tried to get the desktop going it crapped out on me. I just ended up with a black screen with a flashing white cursor in upper left hand corner. Both these issues seem to be in the forums/online but with no apparent solutions. The Rock64 DietPi thread goes back years ago.  So if anyone has recently successfully installed and run one of the recommended OSes in the getting started guide for the Rock64 please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

  very slow processing of MMS received via Ting (T-Mobile)
Posted by: treebeard - 11-02-2022, 02:57 PM - Forum: Mobian on PinePhone - Replies (6)

The timing may be coincidental, but after upgrading bookworm today I find that every MMS I receive takes several (2-20) minutes to process.  A common factor is that I'm seeing "GSocketClient: Address enumeration completed (out of addresses)" in the log from mmsd-tng.  Each time this happens, there is a 1 minute timeout and it happens multiple times for every MMS.

Is anyone else seeing this after a very recent upgrade?

mmsd-tng did get upgraded from 1.11-1 to 1.12-1 but I've tried reverting to the old version with no effect.  My carrier is Ting (T-Mobile) but don't know if that's relevant.

  PinePhone Pro Manjaro Plasma Mobile Beta 13 & No Audio with Phone Calls
Posted by: X0X0X0X0X0 - 11-02-2022, 02:09 PM - Forum: PinePhone Pro Software - No Replies

With PinePhone Pro Manjaro Plasma Mobile OS, Beta 13, I cannot hear nor be heard on the other line (outgoing call).

Settings for audio:  Settings > Audio >

- Playback Devices > Port:  Internal Speaker -- Profile:  Make a phone call
- Recording Devices > Port: Internal Microphone -- Profile: Make a phone call.

I have tried these steps:

$ sudo pacman -Sy pulseaudio pulseaudio-alsa pulseaudio-bluetooth
$ sudo pacman -Rs pipewire-alsa pipewire-pulse

and a reboot; no avail.

Tried the PinePhone Pro with Mobian, and the same results I do get.

Anything else I should be looking into?

Bug Speaker "Popping"
Posted by: Merc - 11-02-2022, 01:17 PM - Forum: General Discussion of PinePhone Pro - Replies (3)

I'm getting back into the PinePhone and PinePhone Pro and I was just curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue because I can't seem to find much information about it.

The problem is simple, when my PinePhone Pro goes to play audio, there will be a sudden and loud "pop" sound before it plays. This also sometimes happens when I first cold boot the phone. I say "sometimes" because it seems almost random when it chooses to "pop".

I've done some searching and it seems obvious that it has to do with PinePhone "sound card" powering up, either from cold boot or from idle. I've already went ahead and disabled idle suspend in Pipewire but the problem persists. I've not done extensive testing so far, right now I want to see if anyone else has experienced this. I've seen reports of this happening on the PineBook (Pro) as well. It's not the biggest issue ever so I've not cared to look to fix it.

Has anyone else experienced "popping" sound coming from their PinePhone Pro?

Question Pinecil authenticity checker just reports "Invalid data": What does it mean?
Posted by: dreieck - 11-02-2022, 11:06 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinecil - Replies (1)

Ahoj,

I want to check the authenticity of my just received Pinecil V2 via the Pinecil authenticity checker.

When I insert ID and serial number, the authenticity checker just says "Invalid data".

What does this mean?

Not authentic, authenticity checker broken, wrong format of data?

In total, the Serial Number I have entered has 16 hexadecimal digits, and the ID has 8 hexadecimal digits.

I ordered my pinecil directly from pine64.org.

Attached a screenshot.

Regards!

Exclamation Spurious orders without confirmation due to error in Webshop -- demanding refund.
Posted by: dreieck - 11-02-2022, 09:50 AM - Forum: Shipment Related Discussion - No Replies

Dear community,

I want to report an issue I had with orders at the pine64.com-store.

In short: Although the checkout page did produce an error with "Bad Gateway", orders made it silently through, resulting in three orders placed although I only wanted to have one, and only two order confirmation emails gotten, and although it's not my fault I got only partial refund.

In long:

On 2022-10-18, I ordered a Pinecil v2 together with some accessories, alltogether for 67.94 USD plus 11.99 USD shipping.

When I wanted to pay by credit card, it seemingly did not work, see this thread:

Whenever I wanted to use my MasterCard (real credit card, not a debit card, issued by the German bank "Commerzbank"), it sayd "bad gateway" and did not proceed to any confirmation site but just did stay at the checkout-site. So I just tried again, and then it said "Sorry, your session has expired. Return to shop".

So I tried again, with different browsers.

The issues persisted.

Later I got two order confirmation emails, of exactly the same orders, with different order numbers.

I immediately contacted the pine64 service about the issue, that I only wanted to order one, and that there was a problem with their website which made me think that the payment did error out and the order did not make it through.

They said they refund one order, but that there will be a 5% cancellation fee.

I objected that fee since it was the fault of the webshop which made me think that the order did not work, which resulted in multiple order. I got no reply for it.

Today I received two times the exact same package, for which I had to pay customs (13.59 EUR for each). In my credit card account, I see three times a deduction of 79.93 USD, and one time a refund of 75.93.

So apparently even three orders made it through, although the webshop showed an error at checkout and I got only two confirmation emails.

I emailed them today a very demanding email, explaining in detail the errors the webshop had and demanding the full refund (not with a cancellation fee) for all but one order, and I am willing to send back the double package at their cost. Because they are responsible for their webshop it's their fault. And that I will issue a chargeback via my bank if they don't refund until 2022-11-07.

I attach my email for reference.

Let's see what happens.

I will keep you updated.

What are your experiences with chargeback via the bank to Pine64? Do I have to fight then with collection agencies?

P.S.:
If anyone wants to buy my second pinecil with accessories from me (I am in Germany) I am also OK with that, and I will not issue a chargeback for that second delivery then.

It is the following package:
  • PINECIL v2 soldering Iron:                      $ 25.99
  • PINECIL Break Out Board:                        $  3.99
  • PINECIL Transparent Replacement Shell:          $  5.99
  • PINECIL Replacement Tip Contacts:                $  1.00
  • PINECIL Soldering Tip Set (Fine):                $ 24.99
  • PINECIL Portable Mini Stand:                    $  1.99
  • USB Type-C to Type-C Silicone power cable 1.5 m: $  3.99
  • Shipping:                                        $ 11.99

Total:                                          $ 79.93

Given the currency conversion fee my bank also has imposed, and the customs I had to pay, I am selling this package for 97.00 EUR, plus shipping from Germany (or handing over in Dresden, Leipzig or Berlin). This corresponds to the money I lost due to the unwanted extra charge and delivery. Since this is a private, non-commercial selling, I do not offer more warranty than to forward the original Pine64 warranty, which is 30 days from the day of shipment (seemingly 2022-10-21).
