as I see, there are already users out there which do already have the rock64 board.
May I ask when you placed your order and when you received the board?
The reason I am asking is that I placed my order at the 8th of july and the tracking website
still states that the product was handed over to carrier since 6th of august.
Originally it was stated, on PINE64 website, that first shipping of rock64 is done on 31st of july.
So I'm wondering has anyone of you, who already have the board, placed the order between
8th and 31st of july?

Sorry for my bad english but I hope I made clear what am I concerned about.

Remember that small soft protective plastic case in which your Rock64 board ( in static bag ) arrived ?  Well, don't throw it away;  it makes a wonderful semi-permanent case with just about two hours work on the draft board making templates followed by some fairly straight-forward dremel work.  The pic above shows the Rock64 laying casters up in the case waiting to be embedded !  I'll be using M3 metric machine screws to adjust the height of the board in the case, as well to lift the case off the table top ( stilts ) to make room for the 5v brushless fan which will eventually be mounted underneath. 

                

The pics above show the mounted case ( 2.2 hours ) prior to power up ( first time tonight on the Gbe switch ) !  I had just a little more difficulty with the minor height and position adjustments ( fiddly ) but very rewarding in the end;  looks great, and will be totally functional.  

   

The final pic above shows the newly cased Rock64 booted up headless on the network ( Gbe switch ) beautifully perched on its M3 stills;  this see-through case is protective, yet inexpensive,  and looks great !  Left for another day, mounting the heatsink and 3M thermal tapes, running the gpio(s) ribbons out the back, and mounting the active cooling 5v brushless fan on the bottom!   The airflow will come across the top ( air straw to heatsink ) and then out the bottom case exhausting to the back.  This in combination with the soft pwm motor controller ( 2N2222 ) and Python control script, the fan will run very quietly and with great efficiency. 

Notice that the top of the shipping box,  is actually the bottom panel of our new case design !   

Also, notice the machine screws -- they are only actually machine tapped in the board;  washers and nuts are not necessary because the holes in the Rock64 board are just the right size for machine tapping the M3 metric screws !

I'm looking for a low power replacement for my 1U server.

I run plex media server, apache, and deluge all with very low usage. I was hoping to get 1080p hevc 8bit @ 24fps decoding and 1080p x264 8bit @ 24fps encoding simultaniously (basically transcoding). I'm not sure if that is kind of an unrealistic goal for an single board computer. Apache and deluge sit close to 0% cpu usage on my server so I'm really only concerned with plex transcoding.

I also plan on running ZFS mirrored on 2 USB3 ports (using a splitter on the ROCK64). but I assume that's a little outside the scope of the experts on this forum.

Currently I am between the Odroid XU4 and ROCK64 but if anyone has any better suggestions I'm all ears.

And my last consideration is software. I run Arch Linux on almost all my servers but as I understand it, software support is still very behind on the ROCK64 whereas the XU4 has been around the block.

Is the XU4 or ROCK64 a better choice to suit my needs?

Rock64 4Gb Quick 5 min Review just arrived 14days from dispatch to the UK. and it rocks!

* Spun up Android using DD on a Sandisk Ultra (10) 16Gb Micro SDMC.
* Tested various media with RKMC including 4K 30hz and x265, No major issues except Big Buck 4k 60hz stuttered.
* Needs a heatsink....gets quite hot without it. slapped one on, with 3M Heatsink Adhesive tape...all good

Pretty good start so far. Will test Linux over the next few days.

Hello I recently found out about the rock64 and have become very fascinated with it as it sounds fantastic! I wanted to ask a few questions before buying as I have been burnt with mini pcs before previously the ugoos ut3s and more recently the khadas vim. Both had promises of being able to be able to play HD video in Linux but never ended up providing the support making Linux and therefore the boxes themselves useless to me.

Can the rock64 handle HD video in Linux? Also can it boot dual OS eg Linux/android? I would like be able to boot one rom from emmc and another from sd card is this possible? How stable are roms at the moment, many bugs? Also can the dac work in any rom or does it require a custom rom? Thanks.

This Rock64 has to be the slowest thing Ive seen. Running the Debian LXDE version.

Hi all

I have a project that needs a USB device to be power-cycled remotely. Is there any way of doing this on the Pine A64/+?

I just received my Rock64 and I thought I had also ordered a power adapter (UK), but I didn't and checking my order I didn't actually order one.  If I buy one through the store here then the shipping from China will cost more than the product itself. However I can't a single 3.5mm barrel charger (5V, 3A) in online in the UK, it seems to be a very strange type of power cable.

Does anyone have idea where to get one in the UK?

I have found some USB to 3.5mm barrel charger, so if I found a USB plug which is 5v 3A would that work?

Please let me ask a little.

I got Rock 64, but a problem has arisen.

- Start writing images to microsd. And restarting the file system breaks.
- Launch the image and freeze it when trying to edit the file with vi etc. It is possible to log in again from another terminal. However, when trying to output syslog again with vi or cat, it freeze.
Write -image and execute fsck etc. before booting but at this point the file system does not appear to be broken.
-microsd burned the image through SD card adapter and USB card reader against Samsung EVO 32GB and silicon power (class 10 UHS-1) 32GB, but both are the same.
- I tried the following method to bake an image, but it is the same.
 - Windows 10 / Etcher 1.12
 - Windows 10 / Win32 DiskImager 1.0
 - ubuntu / Etcher1.12
 - ubuntu / dd (sudo dd bs=1M conv=fsync if=OS.img of=/dev/sde)

The image I tried is as follows
 - Debian Stretch Minimal Linux Kernel ver 4.4 (0.4.16 / 0.4.17)
 - Xenial Minimal Linux Kernel ver 4.4 (0.4.16 / 0.4.17)
 - Xenial i3 Linux Kernel ver 4.4 (0.4.16 / 0.4.17)

Regarding the SD card adapter and the USB card reader, I burned images such as Pine 64 and Orange Pi, but there were no such problems.

In this case, should we suspect hardware (Rock 64)?
