  Stability of 0.6.x
Posted by: ayufan - 01-11-2018, 04:32 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (4)

I start to think that we reach the point where 0.6.x should become a Release branch and deprecate the 0.5.x.

What are your thoughts on this? Does it work OK? What kind of problems you face? If you have any of them, can you create and describe that in the issue here: https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/issues.

  Container Ready Image
Posted by: ayufan - 01-11-2018, 04:28 PM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (4)

Hi,

I pushed yet another variant of my builds. The latest one `xenial-containers` is a container ready image that has:
Docker Community Edition / Docker Compose / Kubernetes Admin tools.

It allows you to easily play in single-node setups with just Docker Engine, as well as multi-node setups using either Docker Swarm or Kubernetes Engine.

These images have tools preinstalled so simply follow the generally available tutorials for configuring `docker swarm` and `kubeadm init`.

As for GUI for Docker the best is portainer.io. It will work well on these images: https://portainer.io/. There is an ARM64 binary that you have to install!

Let me know what you think about this variant. Keep in mind that since this is ARM32/ARM64 it will only run these images! It will not run AMD64 which is a majority of the internet for Docker. It is possible to run AMD64 on Rock64 via qemu-static with preloaded binaries, but... it will be terribly slow and believe me you don't want to do it.

I'm also working on bringing RancherOS for PXE booting. It works already, but it is still not pre-release ready. It will be ideal for centrally managed (NFS?) setups with a lot of Rocks/or-SoPines.

As always, latest pre-release is here: https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/releases!

  Moonlight embedded & NX client
Posted by: Maor - 01-11-2018, 12:34 PM - Forum: Linux on Pine A64(+) - No Replies

I am looking to buy the ROCK64 board, as it seems a bang for the buck.
I do need to know 2 things:

Will I be able to get Moonlight embedded and NoMachine NX client working with mainline?

  Custom OS
Posted by: MaskOfLoki - 01-11-2018, 11:55 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook - Replies (8)

I'm going to be buying a Pinebook here soon, and I was curious if it's possible to run a custom OS I've written on it. Specifically, does the booting partition have to be FAT32, or does it allow for custom bootloaders and such?

Sorry if this isn't the correct section to post this.

Question Where is my parcel?
Posted by: ladoleo - 01-11-2018, 04:19 AM - Forum: Shipment Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Unfortunately, I have to write to the forum, since at the address sales@pine64.org I was probably ignored.
The order was sent on time 2017-11-17, but according to the current day 2018-01-11 its status does not change: In transit https://t.17track.net/ru?nums=LM047411278CN

Today is 55 days as the delivery goes. I'm not sure that I can get the long-awaited order. Can someone tell me what to do in this case? Were there such cases that people did not receive their parcels with microcomputers?

  is my eMMC broken or am I wrong?
Posted by: jykeith123 - 01-11-2018, 04:00 AM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (8)

Hi
I bought one eMMC from pine64.org and it's my first time to use eMMC.
I'm not sure whether I'm doing wrong or this is broken.
What I've tried is,

1. using eMMC to microUSB adapter

I bought this. but doesn't work. my PC can't read it.
this video shows some SD card reader is not compatible with the adapter.
so maybe my one as well.

2. writing an Image to eMMC module according to this tutorial

I followed until step 6, but I can't see mmcblk0. only mmcblk1 shows up from 5-7 tries.
left block is a log when I followed the tutorial and right is a log I used sd card only.
I removed jumper before I type boot command.

How do you think?
Thank you :-)

  LinuxKit and Rock64
Posted by: douglasmiranda - 01-10-2018, 11:06 PM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCK64 - Replies (3)

LinuxKit is a awesome project, and I think for arm / arm64 community is great too.

If you like:

  • custom linux images
  • immutability
  • clustering
  • container distributions
You probably going to like LinuxKit.

https://github.com/linuxkit/linuxkit

There is some effort for using it for building custom images for Rpi3 64bit.

https://github.com/linuxkit/linuxkit/issues/2574
https://github.com/WorksOnArm/cluster/issues/12

https://github.com/WorksOnArm/cluster/tr...3-linuxkit

https://gist.github.com/DieterReuter/9e8...b8006ea0b1
https://gist.github.com/DieterReuter/805...d088c2997f

So if anyone is interested to get involved or could shine some light on how difficult would be to build images for Rock64 using linuxkit I would be glad to hear.

Rainbow automatic proxy server
Posted by: Brainmore - 01-10-2018, 10:56 PM - Forum: Linux on Pine A64(+) - No Replies

Hi Guys  Wink

Well I'm looking for a nice solution to use Pine64 as a small proxy server with linux.

Basically it needs to be to automatic proxy server, wich is plug n play after you connect it to internet and power, on.

2 Steps:
• Preconfigure Pine64 with light os & startupscript for proxy.
• Connect to router and power - done.

After that it should send me the login to the proxy to my preconfigurated email automatically.

Do you have an Idea to achieve that in the best way possible?

Please let me know and have a discussion.

Best regards
Brainmore

  No HDMI Display need help with correct uEnv.txt settings
Posted by: dkebler - 01-10-2018, 10:20 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PINE A64(+) - Replies (7)

I am trying Ayufan's latest minimal xenial image for pine64
https://github.com/ayufan-pine64/linux-build/releases

It is booting and I can ssh to the board.  All seems fine except I can't get the HDMI port to function.

It is connected to my standard monitor which supports 1080p

Here is the only defaults (comments) I changed.  I've fiddled some with these but nothing not even a hint of communication with my monitor (like a flicker).
I am assuming my issue is just getting these settings correct?  Are there maybe other things I must do to get HDMI working?

Code:
# To enable LCD or HDMI, if not changed it will use default (experimental)
#disp_screen0=lcd or hdmi
disp_screen0=hdmi
disp_screen1=hdmi
# disp_mode=screen0 or screen1 or dualhead or xinerama or clone or disabled
disp_mode=screen0

# USB OTG port mode (experimental)
# otg_mode=device or host or otg
otg_mode=host

# Configure contiguous memory allocation
# This maybe required to be enlarged for 4K displays
cma=384M

# To change HDMI display mode:
# hdmi_mode=480i
# hdmi_mode=576i
# hdmi_mode=480p
# hdmi_mode=576p
# hdmi_mode=720p50
# hdmi_mode=720p60
# hdmi_mode=1080i50
# hdmi_mode=1080i60
# hdmi_mode=1080p24
# hdmi_mode=1080p50
hdmi_mode=1080p60
# hdmi_mode=2160p30
# hdmi_mode=2160p25
# hdmi_mode=2160p24
# hdmi_mode=800x480p
# hdmi_mode=1024x600p
