  canNOT boot after a normal apt upgrade
Posted by: cooker - 05-23-2018, 07:39 AM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (2)

The latest upgrade push kernel 4.4.126 and crash Rock64 when reboot.

By using serial cable, there is a short moment that user can select to boot from the previous kernel (the lovely stable 4.4.77).  So, be claim, everything is still there, I believe.

Unfortunately, seems that there is no hope for pure ssh remote control boxes.

Anyway, any elite kind enough to post a know-how on how to change the default boot order specifically for Rock64 on this forum.

Thank you

p.s.  if possible, also a know-how to prevent the kernel from being updated automatically.

the 1st know-how

$ sudo vi /boot/efi/extlinux/extlinux.conf

change the 2nd line from
default kernel-latest
to
default kernel-previous

Star [Archived] Initial Linux release from ayufan (0.6.XX)
Posted by: Luke - 05-23-2018, 12:13 AM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (49)

Here you will find an initial Linux release for the RockPro64 from ayufan.

Same OS Images as on the Rock64 including:

* Minimal
* LXDE Desktop
* OMV (32 and 64bit)
* Contrainers (Kubernates & Docker CE)

Its a first pre-release so expect things not to work or not work as expected. As always, offer feedback here an on ayufan's git.

  How to enable mate/startx on boot in jessie
Posted by: desai_amogh - 05-22-2018, 11:55 PM - Forum: Armbian - Replies (5)

I have a 2gb pineA64+.  I used this image https://www.armbian.com/pine64/ and got a barebones termina.

Installed xorg and mate-desktop-environment through apt-get.  Now I am having a hardtime getting it to stick at booting.

I did add a line exec startx in ~/.profile. But it boots the pine64 and asks for credentials in terminal and only gets to the gui after credentials are entered.  I also couldnt fine /etc/default/grub toset it up there.

What am I missing here??

Anyone can test and tell me?

Really appreciated.

  Linux for Rockpro64
Posted by: superpat - 05-21-2018, 05:51 AM - Forum: Linux on RockPro64 - Replies (1)

Hi

My Rockpro64 is in transit!, will not be long now, unless it languishes in UK customs.

Looking at this forum and the Wiki, I cannot find anything on a Linux system.

As  it is a new system, I suppose that we will have to compile our own kernel.   I have had a look at the Rockchip git pages.  There is a LOT of info there, it will be a severe learning curve to  read, understand and pick out the apposite  parts!

It would be very nice if Pine could add a quick tutorial on what is the best build environment, Rockchip have a good page:-

http://rockchip.wikidot.com/linux-user-guide

Is this the way to go? or is there a better document.

I am extremely rusty on kernel config and compilation, the last time I did it in anger was  years ago on Slack version 0.98  on a dozen 3.5inch floppies !!

as I say, a steep relearning curve.

regards

Patrick

Bom Dia.
