  Hardware problem, Initialisation and Reset
Posted by: superpat - 06-18-2018, 02:24 AM - Forum: RockPro64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (3)

Hi

After  installing a Linux downloader  I have managed to download many Linux distro's from Github.

My board is a pre production Rockpro64_V2 2018-4-11

Trying with many Linux images and Android, also 3 different 12v power supplies I constantly see a major issue to achieving  successful booting.

Symptoms.

Board set up with SD card or emmc media loaded with bootable image, (any). Serial console connected.

1. insert 12v power jack... System starts to boot, either gets errors loading  and crashes or succeeds with NO errors about 50% of power ups.  Sometimes errors are shown on console,  initialising USB3 interface for example, and errors from  image CRC on media.

2.  With successful booted system, (logged in),   pressing reset reboots system, then reboot starts to occur,   ALWAYS (100%) fails to conclude boot, most often hangs at end of Uboot load.

3.  Pressing power switch either does nothing, no reboot  or reboots to hang at end of Uboot as above.

4. Pulling 12v power jack out and reinserting successfully reboots to login prompt. 100%  (after successful boot from initial power up (1. above)

This is repeatable!

The first thing that strikes me is that the board starts to boot at the INSTANT of power connection.  There does not appear to be any delays to allow power supplies to settle,  there needs to be a short delay to allow the power supplies on the board to stabilise before the boot runs.

It seems as though the  SBC logic is not cleared or reset properly on initial power up.  in fact the reset does nOt reset properly.

It appears that the reset push button doesn't reset properly.

It appears that once the system has booted correctly then it is more likely to boot correctly on subsequent reboots (by pulling and reinserting 12v jack).

I cannot find the post at the mo, but someone else was complaining about random boot errors.

I am wondering whether the board is electrically "noisy" and is suffering from an inadequate ground plane, or perhaps lack of filtering on the logic  supplies.   How many layers are there in the pcb? I am certain this is an electrical problem and not software.

I hope this issue has been addressed in the second batch of boards to be released.  This board is very flakey at the moment.  It still needs a lot of work!

regards

Patrick

HI,

I started a thread regarding Rev Control.

Within a couple of replies it has been completely hijacked and lost all sense of purpose, now up to 20 replies mainly about the resistor or not!

PLEASE KEEP YOUR REPLIES TO BE RELEVANT TO THE O.P.s SUBJECT

If you want or need to go off topic start  a new thread

  OpenGL ES3
Posted by: Bram - 06-16-2018, 08:27 PM - Forum: Android on Pinebook - Replies (1)

I'm thinking of getting an Android Pinebook.
I would use it for developing Android apps.

Can I just hook up the pinebook via USB to my PC, and have Android Studio install apps on it?

Also, does this device have OpenGL ES3 support?

Thanks.

Rock64 no longer boots after dist-upgrade
Posted by: KernelPanic - 06-16-2018, 03:16 AM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (9)

After upgrading to the latest version of ubuntu from Ayufan Rock64 no longer boots.
I had a workaround by selection "previous kernel", but now I tried installing the latest kernel and previous kernel also no longer works.

Can anyone help me in the direction to use a different kernel from uboot? Could I just hook up a usb and tell it to boot a kernel I've downloaded to that?

  Real-time webcam shaders
Posted by: yoann.b87 - 06-15-2018, 08:06 AM - Forum: Linux on Rock64 - Replies (4)

Hello,

In my project I need to apply shaders on a webcam video flux in real-time and show the result on fullscreen.
Webcam output can be MjPEG or H.264, thus we also need to use hardware for the decoding process.
Maybe there is different way to achieve it.

I tried to use OpenCV with OpenGL. However the OpenCV doesn't use hardware acceleration to decode the camera flux.
I've compiled and installed it on a ayufan Bionic lxde 0.6.41 image. I've also tried to do this on Stretch 0.5.15. Other more recent version or Bionic or Stretch doesn't boot on my Rock64 board.
Hardware acceleration seems to work because rkmpv is able to display nearly real-time webcam video, there is juste a huge latency reducing over the time.

Do you have ideas to make OpenCV use GPU or another app/library etc to to realize it with OpenGL ?

Thank you very much in advance.

  Rock64 and Nextcloud
Posted by: gleech - 06-14-2018, 02:36 PM - Forum: Rock64 Hardware and Accessories - Replies (4)

Hi,

I just want to get some opinion on my build. I'm planning to build my own cloud using Nextcloud and Rock64, and using hardware raid for redundancy.

I'm hoping for the community to comment on my hardware selection.

Option A:

Rock64
USB to SATA cable (link)
Icy dock Hard Drive Cage with RAID (link)
250gb SSD (x2)
6A or 8A Power Supply (Link)
5.5mm to 3.5mm Power plug adapter (link)

Option B:

Rock64
USB 3.0 Type A to Type B (Link)
Oodelay USB 3.0 to 2x SATA with hardware RAID (Link)
250gb SSD (x2)
6A or 8A Power Supply (Link)
5.5mm to 3.5mm Power plug adapter (link)

Could anyone comment on the hardware selection. I'm leaning against option A but the Icy dock is more money than the Oodelay, and I'm trying to find out how to power the two SSD if I go with Option B. Can I power the two SSD using the USB 2.0 to SATA power adapter or can I use this splitter (link) and power the Rock64 and the two SSD's, I'm not sure if this is safe.

Hopefully someone could give me some advice.

Thanks

LACK OF REVISION CONTROL ON ROCK PRO 64
Posted by: superpat - 06-14-2018, 03:03 AM - Forum: General Discussion on ROCKPRO64 - Replies (20)

Hi

I purchased one of the first pre production Rock64 pro boards.  It has the following marking:-

Rockpro64_V2 2018-4-11

Searching the wiki and the forum, I can find NO collected information on what changes have occurred and need to be implemented to bring the module up to production revision.

Questions

1) What is the revision of the modules that are being shipped in the current second batch?

2) Do the modules in the second batch include ALL the fixes for the known defects?  (see below)

3) Why does the wiki not include a list of essential modifications and instructions to perform them?

( The reason I ask is I see that there has been discussion about the removal of a SMD resistor to enable the  NVMe Card interface to power
up, however the Sata card still does not appear to work, IS this a "fix" or not?  I do not want to risk destroying up my board for no gain! )

4)  WHY is there no wiki  information giving a detailed UPDATED REGULARLY list of revision levels, modifications and working / not working status?  The Rock64 pro section of the wiki has  only had two minor updates since the Rock Pro wiki page was created in April:-

Though this board looks neat and  well designed, it appears all effort by Pine has ceased at that point.   It seems to be a very unprofessional approach that there is no apparent rev control on this project!

PLEASE do not suggest I read the Rock64 IRC channel, that is not an accurate source of information... and it is very transient.  I have not got the time to pore through it to glean nuggets of info... It should all be on a dynamic wiki. A "one stop" shop!

I just wondered if anyone was aware of these?

http://my.bitscope.com/store/?p=view&i=product+BR20A

I have one here now, the BB02A blades seem to work just great with the Rock64 with slight modification.

The plastic spacer needs to be either replaced with a slightly longer one or some nylon washers added to give a tiny bit more height.

Hi,

I kave some problems with my new rock64 sbc (4Go, Ubuntu on 16Go eMMC, wifi). Here they are:

1: generally the first starts crash, with the red led on. After few restarts (or/and time of use), i have the impression that the board works better. Perhaps that a required working  temperature is not reached before a given time (?)

2: after the start-up, the board always give the error: Fail to apply network settings. You light not able to connect to bluetooth network via this machine. Exception: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: fait to execute program org.blueman.Mechanism: Permission denied

3 the highligthing of the menus items are very very slow to follow the mouse cursor

4 taking a screenshot does not work

that's all for now. Someone can help
