Been trying for two hours to sort this out. (Using Windows7 64 bit to copy to SD Card)
I followed the link to the github page and downloaded libreELEC.tv-archived-re-leia24.zip file. (it was top of the list with the most recent date but there sre no instructions at all on github for noobs)
I extracted it using 7-zip into its own folder on my hard drive.
I have formatted my 16Gb SD card. I downloaded Etcher.
When I try to copy the image there is no .img.gz file. (Like I had for my RPi3)
I have tried downloading the tar.gz and extracting that to the folder but nothing recognised by etcher appears.
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.

So, since I've got both the pine64, rock64 and rockpro64 on the bench atm, and am playing with some timelapse video conversion... I thought I'd run a job on all three and see what the results were.
Unsurprisingly, the rockpro64 won the race. I was surprised to see the pine64 wasn't that far behind the rock64, but then again, I'm not doing anything that I think would really take advantage of the hardware encoding...
Now this wasn't that hard a job, stitching together some 1800 stills into a around 90 second timelapse, but it still illustrates the performance difference between the boards at this stage, with what is likely to be sub-optimal encoding settings.
And because evilbunny made me pull out my pineH64 and run linux on it... it gets a mention also, but it is a dishonorable mention as the Linux image I have for it is barely enough to boot it, and it is seriously un-optimised ...

Hello,
Running a 2GB Pine A64 with volumio. The RCA jacks work dandy. The optical out has some pop jitter something. Have tried multiple sources and outputs and it's consistently there. Search of the forums didn't show anyone else with these issues - or maybe that my forum search skills aren't so good. ;-)
Any thoughts or advice would be nice. This isn't a big deal but wanted to consult the community.
Thanks,
Matthew

| Hardware Acceleration H264 encoding |

Hello everyone,
I need to upgrade the SBC that supports our product (startup). Our prototype was built using the RPi3, but we need something a bit tougher to support new functionalities. The biggest task running on the system: I need to convert, in real-time, a video stream (HDMI 2.0 1080p60) streaming over USB 3.0 to a 720p10fps mp4 (h.264). Rock64 is currently at the top of my list, but I need to investigate a bit deeper before making the move.
On the RPi3, I didn't do it real-time, but used the h264_omx hw encoder, with ffmpeg. It worked pretty well, besides the amount of time required.
My Questions:
1) Will I be able to do the same with the Rock64, running GNU/Linux?
I found that gstreamer is available for that platform, but read diverging account as to whether hw accelerated encoding is available in GNU/Linux.
2) If not, will I be able to do something similar with Android/Linux?
I believe this is the safe shot, but I would prefer to do it in GNU/Linux is because all my software is programmed in Linux. If needed, I'll move on to Android, that's not a major issue, but I need to know if it's possible before investing in this direction.
Now, I am not a beginner, but I am not 10+ years of experience with SBCs either. If you can let me know about the level of difficulty to expect, that will help me plan the schedule accordingly.
Thank you,
Fred

Why only Arch Linux has kernel 4.x version?
When rest of images upgrade kernel to 4.x?
I see in kernelnewbies a lot of features for arm64... ;(

I have an old (can't believe I'm saying it) pine64+ with the WiFi module and was thinking of upgrading to the RockPro64. I don't want to buy the WiFi module for that, yet, so I was wondering if I can cannibalize the N from the Pine64 for the time being and upgrade to that later. It's already more than I spent originally, albeit more powerful, so upfront cost is a concern. The more I have to spend upfront, the longer it will take for my project to get back up.
The reason for the upgrade is I designed a Home Automation Hub/Media Center for my dining room and the Jessie and Xenial kernels just seem to not like USB touchscreen very well and unless it was solved and I missed it, the gigabit network is not really a gigabit network (hardware flaw), and It will stream from a Plex/Playon server on my network at times at 4K (large get togethers). Plus I'm finding a really annoying problem that on boot from a long shutdown, I have to unplug the HDMI then Plug it back in to get signal. Only happens for long shutdowns. Restarts and quick shutdowns don't do it. Basically going to retire it to something headless. The RockPro gives me the excuse.
Basically, will the module work or not.

| Recommended way to use TVHeadend client? |

Hi,
I just received 2 Rock64 boards, hoping to use them as tvheadend clients. Needless to say - I am disappointed with results so far, I've tried LibreElec latest build (video crashes regularry), Android 7.1+ Kodi (very slow)...
Is there a proven way to use the Rock64 board as stable HD stream receiver (4K would be nice, but even HD is currently problematic)?
