Information Discord Channel
Posted by: Luke - 07-05-2018, 03:13 AM - Forum: Community and Events - Replies (4)

For those who prefer Discord to IRC, a PINE64 Discord channel has been set up. Please note, this is a community chat (just as the IRC) and not an official support service.

Discord Rock64 and Pine64 channels are linked to those in the IRC, so you can chat from either Discord or IRC and  messages will show up accordingly.

At the time of writing, this is an experiment - and I'm not sure if the Discord channel is here to stay or not - let me know how you find it.

  Office System 24/7
Posted by: donisonleague - 07-04-2018, 04:45 PM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (2)

Hi everybody!
This is my first experience with a SBC.
Basically, i need something i could keep running 24/7.
It would need to do browsing activity with some medium flash player usage.
It would also need to have as low as possible power consumption and noise making.
After looking for some possible PC builds, i've tried to look at SBC. I was very skeptical at the beginning because i only knew raspberry and its resources weren't enough for me.
Then i found Rock64.
Now, basically the question is, given that 4GB ram should be more than enough for my use case, would the CPU keep it up?
In other words: is rock64 what i am looking for or should i look further?

Just relaying that PCIe -> SATA and PCIe NVMe work as of 0.6.59 on mainline and 4.4.
I'll let frankm share performance results as I am away and have no means of testing.

As always, massive kudos to ayufan for all the work.

  PINE A64+ 4K Media Computer
Posted by: RWL - 07-03-2018, 03:32 PM - Forum: Getting Started - Replies (4)

I was a KS backer for the PINE A64+ 4K Media Computer (with the 2GB upgrade and WiFi/BT add-on).  I received my PINE about two years ago, assembled it, hooked up a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and fired it up - everything worked just fine!  But, we were about to move, so the PINE got packed (away along with a LOT of other electronics), before I could really play with it.

I recently unpacked the PINE (the move was delayed... a bit), and, with the intention of completely ditching cable TV, told my wife that the 2nd TV would no longer have a cable box, and would use the PINE, instead.  (Her reaction was, "whatever, as long as Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora still work.")  I now have it connected to the TV, with a BT keyboard and mouse combo.  I have an ethernet cable plugged in (the LED is flashing, so it appears to work).  The PINE is also connected to the WiFi (seems that I had to connect to log into my Google Play account?)

This is running off the 8GB Android (v5.1.1?) microSD that came with the PINE.  Should I upgrade to a later version?  It looks like the current v7.0/7.1 builds don't work with Netflix, so should I use Android 6.0?  Other than not longer having an old version of Android (and being unable to install some newer apps), are there other advantages to upgrading to 6.0?  We have a Netflix subscription - could I install 7.0/7.1 and be able to run the app without problem, or are there other issues with the 7.x build that block Netflix?

Finally, what apps would you recommend "to turn this into an advanced Apple TV-like Android product"?

Thanks for your help!

  So how's the BTO queue?
Posted by: raindog308 - 07-03-2018, 11:49 AM - Forum: General Discussion on Pinebook - Replies (4)

Just curious...there was another thread but it dropped off back in May and it seemed like no one had received an update since December.

Several people said they'd put in multiple BTOs over last summer and never gotten any contact.

Are Pinebooks still being produced?  I put my BTO in for a 14" a couple weeks ago and while I don't expect it tomorrow, if it's going to be six months without updates, I won't get my expectations up :-)

  Video Chat with Pine64
Posted by: mathiraj - 07-02-2018, 02:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion on PINE A64(+) - No Replies

Has anyone been able to successfully do video chat with Pine64?
I'm trying to setup my Pine64 board running Android 6 (https://github.com/ayufan-pine64/android-6.0/releases) to do video chat using Skype, Whatsapp, Duo and Hangout and face the following problems.

1) There is no audio with the PINE64 5 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA MODULE as this does not have microphone. Is there a way to add a microphone to this camera?

2) If i try to use my usb Logitech Webcam (which has a mic), i can not switch to it, but get an error that the "device is busy. It could be used by another app". I know that the webcam works correctly, but it doesn't work with Pine64

If anyone has successfully done this, can you please share your solutions?

Thank you in Advance...

Using the Movidius NCS with rock64
Posted by: markjay - 07-02-2018, 09:51 AM - Forum: Rock64 Tutorials - No Replies

hello friends,

Although the movidius NCS doesn't officially support the rock64, I was able to modify the install scripts to get it working. I went with the Bionic-LXDE operating system (since it appears to be the most stable DE). Note that this is version 1 of the SDK. Future plans is to convert version 2 soon.

I created a github repo with instructions on how to set everything up
https://github.com/markjay4k/ncsdk-aarch64

basically just

Code:
git clone https://github.com/markjay4k/ncsdk-aarch64.git
cd ncsdk-aarch64
sudo make install
source ~/.bashrc
sudo make api

If you want to install tensorflow, I made an aarch64 version
Code:
git clone https://github.com/markjay4k/Tensorflow-1.9rc0-py36-aarch64.git
pip3 install Tensorflow-1.9rc0-py36-aarch64/tensorflow-1.9.0rc0-cp36-cp36m-linux_aarch64.whl

then, to build the examples, run
Code:
sudo make examples

Also you can watch a video I made that goes through all the steps as well
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXzIYk7-...ibk0h00410

good luck!!
