USB 3.0 hard drive write speed increase tip on Ubuntu 18.04

Here is a tip for speeding up writes to a external USB 3.0 hard drive on ubuntu 18.04.
If it has already been discussed I apologize for the duplicate thread.
I however had not seen this info before.
Using the default mount format of
Code: sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /media/USB/
I was seeing write speeds around 25-35MB/s over SMB.
However I added the bigwrite flag and my speeds rose to 40-55MB/s over SMB. This was also over wifi, so wired might be faster. I know my drive can do 100MB/s when connected directly to my laptop.
I also added automount via UUID in etc/fstab
Code: UUID=165C922D5C92079F /media/USB ntfs-3g big_writes,rw,async,nosuid,nodev,nofail 0 0
Now the weird part is that the local hdparm tests show no significance difference between these two mounting options.
Maybe I am just not using the right flags?
Code: sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda
Before:
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1106 MB in 2.00 seconds = 552.88 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 328 MB in 3.01 seconds = 108.89 MB/sec
After:
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1110 MB in 2.00 seconds = 554.81 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 328 MB in 3.01 seconds = 108.83 MB/sec

keyboard broken?

Hi guys,
Just a simple question: on my 14" pinebook (which is used daily using the excellent linux support, even layouting magazines using scribus) the keyboard is stopping functioning. '1' 'Backspace' and the right shift key don't register anymore. What should I do now? Are new keyboards available, should i wait for the pro model to arrive ? I wouldn't mind opening the box, it has been opened before (i.e. replacing to emmc with a 64Gb one)
Any suggestions will be apriciated and sorry for any spelling mistakes as a non native speaker...
Erik Ulijn.

[FIXED] AV Acess 4KSW41-KVM 4-port HDMI+USB KVM

I've purchased an AV Access 4KSW41-KVM 4-port HDMI+USB KVM switch to share my USB keyboard and mouse & my HDMI monitor between my Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ & my Pine64 Rock64.
The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ works as expected.
The Rock64, however, does not seem to recognize the USB devices (i.e., the keyboard & the mouse):
- The LED inside the mouse illuminates but the desktop does not acknowledge any movement.
- The USB keyboard is completely unrecognized:
- The Rock64 does not acknowledge any keystrokes.
- Pressing the CapsLock and/or the NumLock does not cause either status light to illuminate.
Ideas? Suggestions?
TIA,
Eric P.

FWIW: The behavior of the Rock64 is the same regardless of which USB port I use to connect to the KVM switch - The USB 2.0 Host port or the USB 3.0 Host port.
TIA,
Eric P.

UPDATE:
TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS:
As an initial step to verify that the Rock64 was still healthy (i.e., not damaged)...
- I removed the power input from the Rock64.
- I transferred the keyboard and the mouse to the Rock64.
- I inserted the power input into the Rock64.
FIRST RESULT: The keyboard and mouse functioned as expected.
And then...
- I transferred the keyboard and the mouse to the KVM switch.
- I inserted the KVM USB-connector into the Rock64.
SECOND RESULT: The keyboard and mouse functioned as expected for about 3 minutes. And then the keyboard and the mouse became completely unresponsive - the same as before.
TIA,
Eric P.

My 1080p Pinebook arrived this week. Here are my first few issues. Hopefully someone can help.
1. No audio device showing under the volume control on screen, and no sound.
2. Updating is failing. Looks like it wants me to provide credentials, but that pop up disappears immediately.
3. Trying to install Chrome, I get a dependency failure.
Any help would be appreciated.

Problem booting from sd-card

Hi everyone,
I wanted to try Armbian for my new pinebook, so I tried the following:
- I downloaded the image https://dl.armbian.com/pinebook-a64/Ubun...desktop.7z
- I unzipped ofcourse :-)
- I inserted on old sdcard
- Then "sudo dd bs=30M if=Armbian_5.56_Pinebook-a64_Ubuntu_bionic_default_3.10.107_desktop.img of=/dev/mmcblk1p1"
- no errors when finished
- Then reboot
Result: booted into default KDEneon, not Armbian on SD card.
Am I doing anything wrong here?
Kind regards,
Giel
