80 mm fan not working |

L.S.,
I just got the NASCase running. I got the 80 mm fan with it, it is properly plugged in in the right place on the board, but for some reason it is not working. Is this a hardware or a software problem?
My NAS runs OMV.
I already tried to install ATS (https://github.com/tuxd3v/ats), but that didn't work out:
after I run
Code: luarocks build https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tuxd3v/ats/master/ats-0.2-0.rockspec
I get the following error in the terminal:
Code: Warning: variable CFLAGS was not passed in build_variables
gcc -c -march=armv8-a+crc -mtune=cortex-a72.cortex-a53 -fPIC -Wall -Werror -O3 -g -I/usr/include/lua5.3 -o debug.o src/debug.c
gcc -c -march=armv8-a+crc -mtune=cortex-a72.cortex-a53 -fPIC -Wall -Werror -O3 -g -I/usr/include/lua5.3 -o ats.o src/ats.c
gcc -shared -Wl,-soname,ats.so.0 -llua5.3 -o ats.so.0.9 debug.o ats.o
Install ATS Tool ..................: ats in /usr/local/sbin
Install ATS Config ................: ats.config in /etc
Install ATS Service File ..........: ats.service in systemd
Remove previous ATS Library .......: ats.so.* from /usr/local/lib/lua/5.3
Install new ATS Library ...........: ats.so.0.9 in /usr/local/lib/lua/5.3
Create soname symLink .............: ats.so in /usr/local/lib/lua/5.3
Starting ATS Service..
● ats.service - ATS - Active Thermal Service
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/ats.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: activating (auto-restart) (Result: exit-code) since Mon 2019-07-01 01:13:48 UTC; 923ms ago
Process: 7288 ExecStart=/usr/local/sbin/ats (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
Main PID: 7288 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
CPU: 14ms
Jul 01 01:13:48 rockpro64 systemd[1]: ats.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
Makefile:103: recipe for target 'install' failed
make: *** [install] Error 3
Error: Build error: Failed installing.
Any ideas on what could be happening?
So to be clear the main issue is that the fan isn't working. The secondary issue is that I can't install ATS.
Allt the best,

Rock64 random freezes |

Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so I'll spare a couple of lines to introduce myself:
I'm a hardware enthusiast, sometimes over my possibilities and capabilities, but that is the way I learn. I like running Linux in every device I have, sometimes just because. But I am far from being a Linux-only kind of guy: there is always room for Windows, OSX and FreeBSD.
I started to be interested in the Rock64 board a couple of months ago when someone introduced me to it. After reading on the forums for a while, I decided to buy it from someone that wasn't going to use it anymore. So far I've tried Debian Stretch and Armbian Ubuntu Bionic 64 images.
I am using it to host small headless server for internal use. The resources I am using are the built-in Ethernet, the CPU, the memory and the SD-Card.
To my surprise, I've been having random freezes with both images for a while. So I decided to debug the freezes by using an external UART to see if messages were dumped to the serial console. (I followed this instructions https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=5029 )
These freezes could happen at random times, but mostly when I was interacting with the Rock64 through SSH protocol.
I tried to force this freezes with the stress command: sudo stress -c3 -m3; and succeded.
1-4 seconds after executing the stress command, the Rock64 board would freeze. I reproduced this four times in a row.
Would you think this is a board problem? I'm asking in case I have to ask for a refund from the person I bought the board from.
I'm pasting the kernel messages below for reference.
Salutations to everyone!

video scoring device for competition skydiving |

Hello, my name is Gary and i'm addicted to technology. I've been developing a handheld device to review video, score points and submit scoresheets. The last couple of months i've been hacking on the raspberry pis with good success. Until I made a 50 item order from adafruit to make a few units, let's just say customer service isn't great at adafruit. After I ordered, I noticed a few items stayed in my cart and weren't added to the shipment. Bringing this up to the adafruit support prompted them to turn package around mid-transit back to the warehouse, cancel my order, and told me to find a new supplier. So here i am.
Here is the current project i'm working on, I'm looking into redesigning these cases for the Pine H64 vB to serve the same purpose.
https://imgur.com/gallery/94BSP7J
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3711469
The current software side consists of GUIslice as the touchscreen interface, with omxplayer sending video to the hdmi screen. I've been using the videocore layering abilities to overlay dynamically generated png images over the video as well. The buttons are configured for scoring points and busts during video replay, additionally for touchscreen interface navigation when not playing video.
I'm not sure what comparable touchscreen I should look into, as I can modify this design to fit just about anything., the 3.5" screen size seems to be a good overall size for this device. I have lots to learn in the pine64 community and will be updating this thread as my project progresses.
Appreciate any advice and constructive criticism from the community. Thanks!

Purchase Rock64 V3? |

So I've seen that some people have the V3, and I particularly desire one (or a couple) based on the RTC battery. How does a person specifically order a Rock64 V3, and not get old V2 stock? Thanks.

HDMI output with Arch Linux Arm |

Hi :-)
I've been waiting for the latest official kernel additions concerning the rockchip's graphic support.
lima is now a part of the kernel and mesa.
Sadly, I'm not able to test any of that using the latest Arch Linux for Arm release because there is simply no output via HDMI.
There's a framebuffer in /dev but I haven't found a way to make use of it.
I can understand there's no console output, so i installed xorg-server and the fbdev support.
Still no image :-(
What am I missing?
kind regards

ARM vs x86 privacy/security? |

Apologies if this has been covered before, I didn't find anything in a search..
Privacy-oriented people/groups (including EFF) have written about how Intel's Management Engine is a potential privacy/security risk. It's closed-source, runs close to the hardware, basically has access to everything on the computer. It's a prize target for hackers, and speculation has it that there might be backdoors for government agencies. AMD has a similar system, "AMD Secure Technology".
I can't see that ARM chips contain anything similar. So, in theory, maybe ARM-based systems have a small privacy/security advantage?
(Yes, I realize that my privacy is probably far more at risk from anything I do online, regardless of hardware or operating system. But still, I'd be curious to know!)
