With pinebookpro-debian-desktop-mrfixit-190905 the audio output is very noisy.
I mean there is background noise in continue each time the audio output is used.
The noise disappears once the audio (sound, video) is over.

- the noise appears right after a flash of the image

- the noise appears after "MrFixIt Update Script" (+ reboot)
- the noise appears after "Update WiDevine ..." (+ reboot)

The noise is present with built-int speaker and with headset.
I do not have HDMI adapter.

Did you also get this experience?
Do you know how to resolve it?

Hello, do you know if Pine phone uses a stand alone GPS that relies on satellite reference or like many Google phones use cell tower positioning ?
In the later case, it will not be possible to use it as a map reference when hiking...

As the title says: How do I order a Pinebook Pro? On the Web site it says "Out of stock" when I select either the EU or US (would prefer US as I'm _in_ the US) AC adapter option, and I can't add it to my cart. See the attached image.

I don't have the $200 yet, so I can wait; but I will hopefully have it within the next month or so.

I never had a smartphone, neither a mobile phone, and I'm eagerly waiting for the pinephone.
I do not know clearly what OS I should use. Here are my needs:
 - properly working phone and SMS
- easy synchronisation of contacts, agenda and bookmarks with my Ubuntu computers
- a map application with the ability to load maps for offline use, for weeks long mountain walks
- a good web browser, ideally Firefox, as it is my default browser and I already synchronise bookmarks with it
- ability to take photos

I'm thinking of using UBport, but I do not know if it will answer all my needs. And what about Pure OS, made by Purism ? Will it be possible to install it in the PinePhone ?

This is my first post here so let me start with some background and a short introduction: I'm Markus, aged 41, father and husband (which means limited tinkering time) from Germany.

I do casual computing with Linux with distro hopping in the past, but mainly on Ubuntu flavors these days, since ~15 years.

I do buy my hardware on a rather tight budget, partly because for my needs 5 year old PCs are just good enough for my needs and in terms of "bang for the buck" and for environmental reasons.
My personal budget has been also very tight in the past. While it's much better now, I still don't dump my money as easily as before.

At the moment I am writing with a Thinkpad T400 that's 10+ years old, upgraded with an SSD and maxed out RAM, but with a dead battery which I'm not planning to replace anymore, so it will move to a stationary use in the house.

It's time for something new and more mobile (read: smaller, less weight and a working battery) as the main machine. I was considering a used Thinkpad X240 as next machine for a daily driver when I got aware of the Pinebook Pro which would come at a similar price tag.

A Pinebook Pro would be my first serious ARM based computer apart from my aging Android phone and a raspberry pi behind my TV, but I find myself seriously considering it.

So I collected some Pros and Cons:

Pros:
-drastically lighter than my current thinkpad, slightly lighter than the X240
-Small device but with a decent screen similar to X240
-Looong battery life thanks to low power consuption
-USB-C connectivity
- I don't need tons of storage, there's a NAS for that in the attic
- I'm really curious to try something new


(possible) Cons:
- Compatibility issues with Applications (and also games) I can use today(?)
- the ARM variants are not as universally compatible as x86 architecture, so
-- much smaller choice of Linux distributions
-- no practical option to continue using Ubuntu(?) which I frequently return to these days
- Can this "just work" for me or will I have to fiddle around frequently?

The list could surely be longer, but I think it's time to consult the community now:

- Did I make fairly accurate assumptions above?
- According to your experience, also with the first Pinebook, what does or does NOT work for you? That could really help to set my expectations straight...

There are many websites and app stores that list software for Linux.  However, I've noticed that many popular applications only run on x86 or do not run on ARM.

Is there a website that lists applications that run on ARM?  Or an ARM package manager?

My goal is to have a nice little home NAS and maybe run some other good stuff like add blocking, vpn, webserver etc.

I have my rock 64 with usb3 external drive connected via ethernet to my TP-Link Archer C7 wireless router.
I'm running an older image from ayufan, stretch-openmediavault-rock64-0.8.0rc14-1134-armhf, which has worked pretty great so far as I can tell.

I'm following this guide for setting up the OMV NAS: http://files.syabas.com/popcornhour/down...180122.pdf
I've been able to do most of the applicable set-up steps and can SSH, access a shared folder from my windows 10 laptop  etc. - sweet!

But I'm getting stuck on assigning a static IP within OMV, I get the error:

I'm thinking about getting 2 Pinebook Pro's. These will be used for novice computer users,

Based on your experience, would it be a good choice, to give to 2 young computer users?

Their usage case largely centers around YouTube, Music, Netflix, Minecraft, schooling(which doesn't use Java or Flash), and more YouTube.
Generally they aren't interested in installing software or messing around in the system. Both users already run Linux on a shared laptop(my old C2D P8700 one).

Of course, spec-wise, in terms of raw hardware, I don't think they will have any issues, since they already use a laptop with 4GB of RAM, possibly a slower 160GB HDD, and a slower P8700 CPU(it geekbenches lower than the RK3399), screen is lower res.

I think that their main issues would end up being software-based. They play Minecraft: Java, I don't know if it will work on ARM, but presumably OpenJDK should, Ubuntu has packages for it on ARM. YouTube should work, Netflix is browser based, should also work, and their school site is also browser based, works on both Firefox and Chromium.


So, do you think a PB Pro would fare well once pressed into service as a media consumption laptop for an average user who expects things to work without any tinkering at all? Or might they be better served with a Chromebook?

While the October announcement mentioned a delay due to problems with a supplier's digitizers/screens, there was no mention about what sort of delay this would put on the "Brave Heart" edition order starting since it was included "... production of the Brave Heart editions starts in late October."
