I am still fighting with getting mainline u-boot to run from SPI but that's another story.

I don't have a rock64 (but I will rectify that this year) but it was simple with the Pinebook Pro as previously described. Replacement SPI NOR Flash are dirt cheap if your chip gets damaged, but your desoldering/soldering skills will need to be solid.

Sorry for the delayed response. I am still working on my spi uboot image... other projects took priority at the beginning of the year.
