new phone asking for PIN
#1
Hi all,

Just got my new phone and powered it on after charging and its asking for a PIN number.

Any ideas what this might be or how to get around it so I can add my own?

Thanks!

I'm getting the same challenge. According to the quick start guide in the original box, that's not supposed to happen. You should be prompted to create a username and PIN during the setup script which appears to have already been run by the time my phone arrived. The solution is to turn off the phone, pull the back off and fish the eMMC chip out and re-flash it with a USB to eMMC adapter plugged into a computer and writing a new image. Manjaro (what it shipped with) or about 16 other choices are on the PinePhone website. That's probably the easiest way to solve this. How it happened is probably not worth wasting time over given the ease of replacing the image.

Just use the default Manjaro pin,    1 2 3 4 5 6

That worked for me,  yeah the installed OS appears to be different than what the instructions refer to.

Some forum members have reported no operating system installed, and I saw one member reported Post Market was installed
on their brand new Manjaro phone.

I wound up using the recent Manjaro Beta 1 from an sd card,   that runs better than the installed/shipped operating system.

I received Manjaro but the 123456 doesnt work. I even tried to use the included adapter to connect a keyboard and monitor and get in that way using the root password but no go it wasnt sending a signal. I guess because the screen was still locked.
Pretty frustrated spent half the night dealing with google support over something else and thought I would relax and play with my new toy but its just a brick right now

There's nothing to stop you installing a new OS version - the factory one is really just there to get you started, and outdated by the time it arrives.
