Hi, I have followed the link and installed the latest version (xenial-pine64-bspkernel-20160507-1.img.xz ). I managed to expand the partition to my full sd card and install MATE. I have managed as well to start in xwindow mode but the system goes really slow and gets frozen sometimes for some seconds. I was wondering how is the performance in your experience and if you have any idea why mine is not so good. Another issue that I am facing is that the edges of the screen are hidden on my monitor and can't see the menu bar. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

Is that where you got it? Hi, The menu issue may have to do with your monitor. I had the same problem and found here in the forum that the problem may be to the "Overscan" setting. Sure enough, I had this and it was on. Once, I turned it off, it fixed everything. I would check that first. On your first question about performance, I found it a bit slow for me too. I assumed that that was the norm but could be wrong. Truthfully, I am more focused on a headless use case and so am not really focused on Mate desktop performance. Do the following to confirm the usual problem when one combines a SD card with slow random write performance and a Desktop Linux or Android: Code: sudo apt-get install iozone3 And for a better understanding what's going on/wrong just look through the specific thread: http://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=191&pid=9042

What browser are you all using? Chromium doesn't seem to be in the repositories and firefox crashes... I can use midori (however, I've never really cared fore midori...), and it complains when I just try to use an armhf version of chromium or firefox... did you need to add in some 32 bit arm stuff?

I am using Midori which works. However, I really want to use Firefox and the one included is unstable. I have the same issue with the armhf version. I have the .deb package but it refuses to install saying "wrong architecture."

Tkaiser, Many thanks for the info, very useful! My Kingston card has indeed an appalling random write rate 212kb/s. I have now tried a old SanDisk I had laying around and random writes at 567kb/s. Much better but far from the 3Mb/s that the Evo+ is supposed to give you so I think I will get myself a 64Gb Evo+ which are not too expensive at the moment. Quote:Kingston Quote:SanDisk

It does take a while. A better way to do it is to install "screen" first. You can then start a screen session and run the install routine and then leave it running while you do other things.
I am not sure if there is a clean way to stop it. I think that ctrl-c will work, but it will not be a clean exit. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |
