I am very surprised no one has mentioned the difference in range between 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi..?

Now couple that to a small battery powered device that you want maximum battery life from.

NOTE :
  My PMOS Convergence phone running Mobian from sd card, can see multiple wifi signals from my neighbors many hundreds
     of feet away, we are on 2+ acre lots out in the county.
