Phosh and Plasma together
#1
Hi, got my PmOS phone today, it's working better than I expected, quite happy. but I want to switch back and forth between Phosh and Plasma. If I install postmarket-ui-plasma-mobile are there more steps to make that work? Are there extra steps to make it work as with an average distro on a laptop or pc, with a session menu at login? Or will installing that break something?

Thanks, happily posted from my PmOS CE phone

There is a 13 images distro you can flash to a SDHC card which allows you to play around for years to come... Confused

Yes, that is an option, but I'm a fan of the PmOS design philosophy, would rather have the one install with two UI options as is common with desktop linux. Interested whether it's feasible on the Pinephone.

I guess you can check which packages each installs, and install them. You'll also need to check which services and configs are mutually exclusive and script a way to swap between them. The one that stands out is modem access via ofono for plasma vs. ModemManager for phosh, but there may be others.

Thanks, interesting point. Would be nice to switch between UIs and, e.g., have the same tabs, plugins, and settings in firefox. I wonder if anyone is trying this already.

I used to have a shared home partition on the openmoko, with a root partition for each OS flavour and a menu in uboot to pick which one to use. On the pinephone uboot doesn't support the screen (yet?) but perhaps p-boot can do something similar? For now it seems like your itch to scratch.
