Pine64 2GB is pushing 1080p/60Hz signal (I don't understand this very well), you need monitor which is able to handle it. If your monitor is for example 1050p/60Hz native, it won't power up.
You can try it using HD TV if you have some (1080p).
You also pretty much HAVE to use an HDMI cable. You can't use an HDMI to DVI adapter. I found that out the fun way as well.
Just to report that I successfully used HDMI to DVI adapter on Pine 2GB without any issue. Monitor is Crossover 3020mdp (2560x1600). Unfortunetly I do not know the model of the adapter.

I too sucessfully used a HDMI to DVI adapter BUT the blacks appear as purple... I used it only for initial testing.
