pinephone not on list of non-verizon
#1
Hi everyone, I was really excited to get my pinephone and am now playing around with it.  I popped my sim in but can't get it to make calls on Verizon.  Has anyone been able to figure this out?  I contacted Verizon and was told that the phone is not support because it is not on their list of non-verizon phones.

I have seen other users on the forum talking about using Verizon,  so I am Fairly certain it will WORK
( Perhaps you need to put in the APN ? )

There may be some issues, that I am not aware of.  I would suggest searching the forum a bit.

"Pine phone" is probably not on any "approved" list yet,  Too New

Personally I have had very bad experiences with Verizon as a company.  BUT,  they are ok as a carrier.

If you talk with a knowledgeable tech with your carrier,
you can give them the modem name and model, that satisfied the tech I talked to at AT&T.

I've been able to make and receive call and send sms on Verizon, but haven't been able to receive ms (except for about 8 hours after Chat was updated, once). manual APN changes don't seem to stick on UBT. If anyone has suggestions regarding receiving sms I'm interested. Best I can gather is Chat has an issue fetching messages from the modem.

Using "modem-manager-gui" as my sms app I'm able to send and receive sms on VZ... not as polished looking as Chatty, but at least it works. The trouble I've had would seem to be on Chatty's end, not Pine64.

The Pine phone is probably too new to be listed as approved or not approved  'I think'  anywhere.
I would ask a knowledgeable tech if the 'Modem'  is approved.

I 'Think'  I have seen some Verizon users have success with text,  so possibly you could attempt with a different operating system ?

I am a GUI only user,  but I have had Great success using Mobian 'Out of the Box' with default settings on the AT&T PrePaid network.

I use my Brave Heart as a daily driver, even with a few imperfections.

I did not notice you mention which O.S. you are attempting to use ?

To follow up on this otherwise abandoned thread. I was able to make a call using Mobian and UT today. Although they needed to use a fake imei number to actually get a sim from them.
