Customised (encrypted) eMMC installation using Anarsoul's ArchLinux

I was wondering if anybody has switched to the mainline aarch64 kernel, or if there's another repo with a newer pine-specific build.
I couldn't find anything related to the Pinebook in archarm, I'm not sure if all the features in Anarsoul's repo were mainlined so I'm not sure if switch to regular archarm would work.
Unfortunately my installation was gone and I'm not able to test it right now.

I decided to give a shot to just removing the anarsoul linux-pinebook kernel and installing the mainline linux-aarch64-5.5.6 from the core repo, but ended up with a black screen after "loading kernel" on boot. Haven't had time to investigate any further. I may have forgotten a hook when I did mkinitcpio or something.

I had this same issue with Manjaro on my PB1080 (before rehoming it) and usually if you've got time (5-10m) to let the PB sit, you should see the login screen when you come back to it and press any key. It's pretty inconvenient, and no one seems to know why mainline does this for the PB, but it should still boot up and let you in.

Just in case, I have similar issues with Armbian https://forum.armbian.com/topic/13248-lu...ment-96589

Had a chance to chroot into my install from the microSD and check the mkinitcpio.conf and boot.txt. Everything was proper, but I rebuilt the images just in case. Same problem. I tried inputting my encryption password after the screen blanks and waiting 5, 10, 15, and finally 20 minutes, but never got past the blank screen. Downgrading to the linux-pinebook64 4.20 kernel works. Guess I'll just stick with that for the time being.

build your own kernel from tsys git

i just updated to 5.6-rc5

there are several drivers missing from 5.5 stable, although tsys looks to be landing some in 5.7

But tsys kernel includes pinebook pro features, right? This is for the 1080p pinebook.

Correct. The kernel used by the PB1080 is this one.

Appreciate the link - I'll have to try building the Manjaro kernel sometime when I get the chance.

It should be available as a pkg.tar.xz, too, in case you'd rather download and install instead of building it. There's also a linux-pine64-420 if you don't want mainline.
