Penbook - Kali ARM64 BETA RELEASE

Hey all,

Posting this here for public consumption. Will update the blog post below and this thread as things progress.

This release is still beta and is for testing only. We're providing the compiled image but all credit goes to Steev Klimaszewski over at the Kali ARM Build Github page who is actively developing it.

IMG RELEASES:

• Penbook Kali ARM64 eMMC - kali-linux-rolling-pinebook_eMMC.img.xz
  
• Penbook Kali ARM64 SD - kali-linux-rolling-pinebook_SD.img.xz
  
  

NOTE: To enable the built in wireless after flashing you must run the command below to compile the wireless driver from source:

cd /usr/src/rtl8723cs && dkms install .

The files provided above are for educational purposes only, use them at your own risk!



There are plenty known bugs with this release (more broken than what's working), if you want to report any you can do so on the project github page.

What works?

• Kali on ARM64, - Basic functionality
  
• Wireless (with post install compile command, no Monitor mode)
  
• Boot from SD and eMMC
  

What doesn't work?

• Wireless during build (must be compiled manually after first boot, fails if activated during build)
  
• Bluetooth
  
• Audio
  
• Left side USB port (Device Tree Issue)
  
• Sleep and Energy Saver
  
• Some keymapping issues
  
• Plenty more...

Not Really, HDMI output is not working, also USB, speakers and microphone is not working. Look, we all should understand this is just a test build. It will get better in future. I have tried the SD card image and here is how it performed.

Very nice! Trying the sdcard version. Seems to work fine with AR9271 Wifi Adapter in right USB port ;-)

Has anyone been able to get the offensive security Kali arm to run on pinebook? If so, what are the steps? I haven’t had any success loading on SD via etcher and booting.
