Just installed this 0.5.15-136 on a 4GB rock64. tasksel seems to be neutered. Is there something that has to be installed to get it going?

There is probably just like in the Ubuntu software center an architecture check, and Ubuntu doesn't provide much/any software selections for arm64 at the moment... iirc most of the things in tasksel are also just available as meta-packages to install anyways...
But this is supposed to be a debian jessie based image, ubuntu should not enter into it.
In any event, I need to install either LXDE or Xfce for a usable X11 gui. So how do I proceed?
Thanks a bunch.

Point about an x install may be moot, I left it running, but when It was time for amanda to back it up, it had crashed, and it is nor responding to an ssh -Y rock64@rock64 query now at 5:30 am local. So this one isn't quite ready for prime time. I had such high hopes too.

Newbie question. I've been looking at the 06.15 build images and may give this a spin when my rock64 arrives. I noticed they are minimal images. Does this include any kind of GUI? I'd like to be able to use vncserver to access the GUI from my desktop PC. What is the difference between minimal and non minimal? Planning on the Xenial image (Ubuntu).
Other thing i read in the forums is that there aren't many arm64 apps in the Ubuntu repository. If I install an arm64 image (which makes sense to me so I can use the full performance of an arm64 chip) would I still be able to use and download 32 armhf versions?
Thanks.
I am atm, running auyfan's stretch release. Not without problems mind you, but its fairly stable anyway.

130, and thew screen locker locks forever , only usable for a few minutes after a reset button reboot, I have finally gotten the locking stopped, but now the screensaver doesn't work either.
I bought these two rock64's intending to replace a pi that throws away keyboard and mouse events, while running this kernel, 4.4.4-rt9-v7+ #7 SMP PREEMPT RT Mon Mar 7 14:53:11 UTC 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux
but otherwise is running a raspbian jessie quite well. Unfortunately those missed keyboard/mouse events can leave a 1500 lb machine moving something rapidly, until it runs into the end of the mechanics. Or worse yet, runs a cutting tool into a chuck that might be spinning 900 rpm. Thats 40 lbs of spinning steel and it will be damaged at a minimum, which might be a $1000 repair.
So I need two things, the first of which I have, but haven't built and installed, which is the latest rt-kernel. Then I need to find out if the SPI is fast enough using the kernels driver. We have a user-space SPI driver for the pi's that writes 32 bit packets at 42 megabaud, and then reads the 32 bit responses at 25 megabaud. Repeat 1000 times a second. Much slower than that and the position commands, buy the time they are echo'd back to the control program, are too stale and the control program thinks there is a following error in the hardware.
So theres two problems I need to fix before I can run metal carving machinery with it. The kernels spi driver has been said to do about 10 megabaud, and that just won't cut it. But I have to try.
