 JMicron JMS578 think is getting best approval but to be honest USB to Sata is stinky especially with multiple file transfers.
If your going to use a singular drive give it a test on multiple file access.
Then multiple disk... mweh.

I have sort of given up on USB for what I would call traditional multidisk NAS

i'm looking for a model that can be used on a 3TB WD red (3.5")

Inatech is a ASM one but just do some googling and check the chipset. Linux 4.4 doesn't do USB3.1 it was either 4.6 or 4.9 (forgot which).

USB 3.0 I would go for JMicron JMS578 with the  ASM1153E a close 2nd.

The newer ones maybe even better but there are less reviews with the ASM1351 and VIA’s VL716.

Just get an adapter from ebay or amazon do a bit of reserach so you know the chipset.
Just grab any hardrive and see what you get for a single transfer and then queue up some simultaneous transfers and see how much you lose.

I cannot find a simple USB cable to SATA with 12V ??

Amazon just search for usb+3.0+sata+iii+12v "copy and paste that" 
Same on ebay.

PS weird about those links on differing sites as they did work. Its like the chip manufactures apart from via are stopping access.

I found 100.000 on ebay but always for 2.5" or theye dont mention what chip is inside .. ?
