As ROCK64 shares the SoC with FireFly RK3288, they must work?

Not the same SoC. That Firefly board uses the RK3288. Rock64 uses the RK3328. The GPU is entirely different. (The one on 3288 is far better...)

Sorry, my bad, should have paid a better attention. Quite a bummer though  Sad

On the second look, ROCK64 has ARM Mali-450MP2 GPU which must be similar to ARM Mali-450MP4 GPU, the one found in HiSilicon Kirin 620 SoC.

That page has drivers for this one as well:
 mali450r6p001rel0linux1arm64tar.gz
 mali450r6p001rel0linux1armhftar.gz

Could they be of any use?

Unfortunately it's not that easy. Different chip manufacturers can implement the same GPU in totally different (and incompatible) ways. If one driver would work for all chips with the same GPU inside, the Pine64 would have had functioning Mali400 drivers since the beginning. It just doesn't work that way. Sad

I would be interested to hear how it runs as a Plex server. The Pine64+ didn't quite seem to be quite able to handle this, especially with transcoding.

Hello,

I'm about to buy a ROCK64 package mostly for development on AArch64.
I'm mostly developing emulators and game-related stuff, so I am concerned about the current status and implementation of X11 acceleration.

As I can see it's working in RetroArch / Mupen64 Plus which is a positive thing.

How is the current X11 3D acceleration implemented ?
Is it Linux X11 driver ?
Is it based on fbdev ?
Is it based on Android library + libhybris ?

Thanks !

To see what is available to work with, check out Rockchip's BSP repo on github:

Come have a chat in the Pine IRC channel >>

How did you do this? I have a rock64 4gb and cannot figure out how to do this atall.

Ever solve the problem of normal video acceleration in linux? I think work in this direction is abandoned and is not being conducted

It's 2020 already, and there is no (or pure) HW acceleraton for Rock64. What a shame.

It's late in 2020 and no progress on this subject-ability sadly. I have arch and manjaro with latest lima from mesa-git-20.3 and kernel 5.8.13 even.
I've tested a minimal KDE on X and wayland. Not good.
