Interesting: The last 2 or 3 reboots pulse audio startet automatically as it should do and has done before! There was no pulseaudio update the last days, perhaps any other update somehow 'fixed' this... or it's just random/luck.  I will further observe this when rebooting the next days.

Bookworm is in a transition from pulseaudio to pipewire so that's the likely cause of some recent audio breakage.  I did a dist-upgrade today - the first since late September - and got many pipewire-related packages but lost things like audible call & sms notifications.  The only thing I had to do to get sound back was 

systemctl --user --now disable pulseaudio.service pulseaudio.socket

Stuff just worked after that (so far), even after reboot.

A few days ago I upgraded my modem firmware from 01.001.01.001 to 30.006.30.006 and haven't had any issues with sound stopping and needing to restart pipewire since. Possibly coincidence.

(Unfortunately the firmware update didn't help improve call/text reliability or overall system stability like I was hoping, but the sound has been fine...)

But I think I'm staying with pulseaudio for now (and manually start it after reboot, necessary 4/5 times I would say - At least this works 100% then), I suddenly have so many problems right now (modem also) with my Mobian phone (which appeared through regular updates (or the hardware get faulty??)), I'm currently afraid of any 'experiments'...
