PPP modem firmware updater

There are other threads on modem firmware. However, this post is specifically targeting the use of the gnome-firmware application to update the modem firmware.

I recently installed the gnome-firmware package on mobian. As far as I know gnome-firmware is not installed by default on mobian. I wonder if it has been tested under mobian. When I opened it three devices were listed for possible updating, only the Qualcomm modem actually had an update available. The available release is designated 0.6.1, offered by Biktorgj. It is also designated as a Downgrade (maybe due to a different versioning system than Qualcomm).

I'd like to know if anyone has used gnome-firmware to install this update and if they found the process to be without issues. Did the update improve the functionality of the modem? What improvements were noticeable.

Has anyone been able to restore the original modem firmware using gnome-firmware?

I tried fwupd (gnome-firmware) to downgrade from 0.6.3 to 0.6.1. It took about ten minutes, and I had to restart the phone so gnome-firmware would show the correct version. It seems to work fine for now

I wonder, does it show that you can upgrade to 0.6.3 now? It just shows that 0.6.1 is available for me. I'm trying to figure out where it finds the firmware that it shows. It would be nice to re-install the original firmware if I wanted to. Maybe I could put the firmware files in the system where it could access them.

Does anyone have know if that is possible?

While Biktorgj does publish his releases, and I did end up installing the latest one from there, my original question was directed more toward managing the fwudate process when using gnome-firmware. I was given some good information concerning this process, but still need to study it a bit more to understand what is and is not currently possible (safe). Firmware in general is being managed by an organization known as LVFS. They publish stable and  testing repos. Unless you purposely enable the testing repo, only the stable releases are available. So, in this case, by default, gnome-firmware is displaying what LVFS is publishing in the stable repo. Changing this default may not be for everyone and gnome-firmware may not be the best tool for the job.
