Here in Japan I paid ¥ 2,200 yen import tax.
I bought from overseas pretty often, but this was the first time I had to pay these taxes, so it really surprised me.

For whatever reason, even though DHL has shipped it from Hong Kong, and DHL exists here in Japan (I had them deliver packages before, even this year), they gave the package to SAGAWA (one of the many national delivery companies) to do the delivery.

Mine got shipped after the lunar new year and I didn't get charged any tax on it in Japan. Like ryo's, DHL had passed it off to Sagawa for delivery.

There was no declared value or anything about it being a gift, just Contents: PINEPHONE Community Edition Mobian Limited Edition Linux SmartPhone.

Hi

I ordered the pinephone beta with the convergence package(approx £163) on the 5th June.

They dispatched it on the 25th June and it arrived with me in the UK on the 28th June.

The carrier DHL contacted me and there was a customs/handling charge of £43.51 that I paid online. I was able to print copies of the taxes paid.
