Motherboard malfunction - a possible warning about power supplies

It sounds like the 5 V regulator on the main board went kaput, because it provides power to USB devices, which includes the keyboard and the touchpad.  Speaking of power supplies, nothing catastrophically bad should happen as long as the supply provides exactly 5 V.
