- Will be answered if you execute the scripts from the next link. It's a shame that it's not outlined in the wiki that these scripts are essential.

- The problem with the manipulated OS images is that they ALL introduce more bugs and that they lack documentation. Most probably to trick backers into believing Linux support would be close to final (which is not, read through the honest announcement for longsleep's original Xenial image what you can expect NOW)
You can add an desktop environment of your choice to the original longsleep Xenial image and by adopting patches made for OpenELEC/H3 with longsleep's kernel and a new tool also dynamic display resolution switching will work soon.
