Not sure but, from what I've understood, the battery will not charge when there is no OS running and supporting charging.
For charging, a 15W capable charging unit is required for optimal conditions : https://store.pine64.org/?product=pineph...ly-adaptor
I once connected my Pinephone on a USB port (500mA ?) of my computer while using the phone (with Ubuntu Touch). The battery level hasn't gone up or down. Using a 15W charging unit, the battery charges.
I noticed that while the phone is off with battery in place, the battery discharges pretty quickly.
