Transferring files from Android phone (via USB)

My Android phone is visible in "Devices" (GUI, default Debian MATE) only in PTP transferring mode (only media files).
When I switch (on phone) to "File Transfer" mode (mtp - Media Transfer Protocol, if I understand correctly) - the device disappears.

What could be the problem?
