In a nutshell: Android (particularly ayufan's droid 6) and RemixOS will be smooth. Linux not so much. I'm not sure about 4k tho ...
Thanks for the updates. The 4k idea has kinda died, at least at the moment. The monitor I ended up using is only 1080p, and I still have only 1 rtsp feed I care about. Originally there was going to be 4-6 feeds, each running at 720p resolution and wanting to have them all displayed on a 4k monitor. For not, not the case.
I've no experience with RemixOS. Would it be easier to set up (and maintain) automation to auto-login, launch VLC, and connect a rtsp feed at boot? With linux, this was easy with a little bash script.
